Your Opportunity
The Corporate Controller's Department is responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the Charles Schwab Corporation and subsidiaries. In collaboration with our business partners we provide comprehensive financial information to our various constituencies including shareholders, management, regulatory and tax authorities. We also play an important role in advising our business partners as to the accounting and reporting implications of proposed business transactions, as well as developments in GAAP and applicable regulatory reporting regimes within which the firm operates. The Team Manager will lead one or more employees in the Corporate Accounting area. This position will report directly to the Senior Team Manager of Corporate Accounting.

What you are good at

* Daily/monthly journal entries prepare and/or approve FX, TEFRA, event, cash items (not booked by GTreasury or Bank Accounting)
* Wire accounting review and approvals
* Debt accounting and reporting
* Intangible accounting and reporting
* Contingent liability accounting and reporting
* Supervise and report status of month-end close process
* Administer Summary of Passed Adjustment list (if any) monthly
* Monthly variance research and analysis, variance consolidation, and manage review meetings along with other responsibilities as assigned for BD+3, BD+4, BD+6 slides
* Prepare, support, and analyze 9-quarter report for CFO
* Coordinate and consolidate variance files for Deloitte (income statement (3 comparisons), balance sheet, and other reports as needed
* Prepare support for Business Unit Package variance explanations
* Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
* Prepare and support Quarterly financial reporting and bank regulatory reporting submissions via Toolbox
* Prepare and support Deloitte audit requests (Deloitte Connect)
* Foundation Administration: QuickBooks, Board Reports, Annual Financial Statements, Monthly Reconciliations
* Quarterly review and sign-off of SOX/RCSA internal controls
* Maintain Standard Operating Procedures as needed

What you have

* 5+ years experience related to operational accounting and month-end close functions in medium to large companies, experience with large company consolidations is preferred
* 3-5 years experience leading individuals and accounting teams
* 3-5 years experience in dealing with external auditors and regulators
* Familiar with the capabilities of large-company enterprise reporting systems. PeopleSoft Financial experience a plus
* Articulates views in a clear and concise manner. Describes sophisticated technical issues in a way that non-experts can understand
* Constructively challenges existing processes with the aim of improving processes and controls to promote scalability
* Proactive, results-oriented operating style
* Ability to quickly analyze issues and present workable solutions that are in the best interest of our business partners
* Ability to effectively detail financial results, workpapers, testing results and conclusions in an effective, efficient manner
* Effectively leads and develops people and promotes staff engagement. Shown team building experience
* Outstanding at building internal and cross-functional relationships
* Certified public accountant, preferred
* Public-company or internal audit experience preferred
* Financial services industry experience a plus
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or Business Administration required
