Job Description

Job Summary:

Performs various ultrasonography procedures in the following settings and times:  Emergency patients, inpatients as well as outpatients, Ultrasound within the operating room, and beside examinations.  Provide verbal consultation of exam findings with the Emergency room physicians as well as the Radiologist.  This role will require working a rotation of weekends, holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Accurately performs all routine duties specified in departmental procedure manuals with only minimal Supervision, as indicated by annual section competency checklist

2. Participates in required in-service and continuing education programs or presentations

3. Routinely performs Ultrasound duties or procedures within established departmental guidelines

4. Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to safety standards established by departmental and facility policy

5. Maintains and projects positive guest relations skills to patients, families, visitors and employees

6. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care to neonate, infant, toddler, and school age child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

7. Initial CPR training and appropriate follow-up training as required by facility and American Heart

8. Completes annual skills checklist with at least a 90% score

9. Coordinates Ultrasound schedule with other areas of the Hospital

10. Operates Ultrasound equipment and PACS

11. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards, and national patient safety goals.

2. Participates in required in-service and continuing education programs or presentations.  Accurately completes Core Competency Manual on an annual basis.  Obtains CEU’S required for ARDMS or any other certifying organization (if applicable for position)

3. Routinely performs Ultrasound duties or procedures within established departmental guidelines. Follows specified protocol for stat exams and reporting

4. Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to safety standards established by departmental and facility policy.  Makes every effort to correct or report safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions

5. Maintains and projects positive guest relations skills to patients, families, visitors and employees.  Communicates a positive image of Health System through personal and telephone contacts with guests and general public.  Maintains the confidentiality of a patient’s medical condition, medical record or any other important information

6. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care to neonate, infant, toddler, and school age child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

7. Initial CPR training and appropriate follow-up training as required by facility and American Heart

8. Completes annual skills checklist with at least a 90% score

9. Coordinates Ultrasound schedule with other areas of the Hospital

10. Operates Ultrasound equipment and PACS

11. Assist radiologist and other physicians with biopsies, paracentesis, etc in Ultrasound

12. Reviews patient’s chart for history and pertinent information before exam

13. Performs a variety of ultrasound procedures

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:

High school graduate.  Associate or vocational degree from an approved Sonography or Radiology program.  ARDMS Registered or Registry eligible. If registry eligible, employee must become registered within one year of employment. 

EXPERIENCE:

Vascular, abdominal and OB/GYN experience preferred.
