General Summary:
This position will focus on payment processes modernization and digitization. It manages a team of Treasury professionals and operations employees that are engaged in providing support to the various operating and staff areas by leveraging the companys banking and vendor relationships to provide low cost, value-added cash management services and capital market execution services. This positions responsibility extends to all companies within the Unum group, their subsidiaries and affiliates, both domestically and internationally. In addition, this position often serves as a principal officer for the captive insurance companies alongside Unum Groups CEO, CFO, and Chief Legal Officer.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead a team of Treasury professionals charged with managing cash across all Unum entities.
* Implement new bank technologies, products and services to improve the cash cycle and simplify company operations
* Drive/support the initiatives to optimize banking infrastructure and cash management processes
* Collaborate with IT in establishing and maintaining Treasury technology solutions including required interfaces, to support cash management activities
* Lead and enhance internal processes to drive operational efficiency and to ensure compliance with internal policies
* Gather, manage and manipulate data from multiple sources for analysis; identify trends, extract insights and deliver actionable presentations of findings
* Evaluate and develop solutions to automate, analyze and establish general effectiveness of process from an end-to-end standpoint
* Lead an operations team charged with assisting various business units in the maintenance of customer banking information.
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with domestic and international banks providing cash management and custody services to ensure that the companys commercial banking needs and quality expectations are consistently met for both Unums U.S. companies and its European subsidiaries.
* Ensure that timely and precise cash movements take place to meet the companys obligations to debt holders as well as announced common stock dividend payments to share holders.
* Support the Assistant Treasurer in managing the cash execution aspect for Unums new capital market activities, including but not limited to debt issuance, stock buy backs, securitizations, and debt tenders.
* Provide consultative services to operating areas by matching their needs to depository and funding products available in the marketplace.
* Manage the compilation, presentation and reconciliation of forecasted cash flows for each legal entity, utilized by the Investment Committee for the prudent and timely placement of investable funds.
* Champion the need for new technological platforms to be continuously analyzed and implemented, either through internal resource acquisitions or external vendor purchases.
* Partner with operating and staff areas to develop and analyze Request for Proposal related to major banking services as appropriate.
* Liaise with banking providers to implement new services, insuring that expectations are met and fees are controlled both for cash management and custody services.
* Manage the holding companys commercial paper program through in-depth knowledge of daily cash flow requirements by the various companies in Unum group.
* Coordinate with the Investment Department to develop policies and procedures to ensure a well-controlled environment for the safekeeping of corporate funds and securities. Unum cash and investments currently approximately $60 billion.
* Manage the banking aspect for the companys Insurance Trust Program.
* Assist in managing our relationships with various Federal Home Loan Bank branches.
* Develop and maintain banking relationships which support foreign exchange transactions required by internal customers in managing foreign currency needs.
Job Specifications
* College degree required, advanced degrees in finance/accounting or designations such as CPA, CTE, CFA and CTP/CCM strongly preferred.
* Minimum ten years of experience in a treasury, cash management or related financial position.
* Previous management experience strongly preferred.
* Demonstrated experience with payment process modernization and digital payment solutions
* Strong understanding of current cash management and financial technology and developing trends in each.
* Strong understanding of the current regulatory environment.
* Knowledge of disaster recovery best practices and cyber criminal mitigation strategies.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external management is required.
* Exceptional ability to resolve conflict.
* Ability to effectively represent Unum in negotiating relationships and contracts.
* Ability to lead and manage a team, sometimes without the benefit of direct reporting lines.
* Ability to multitask while balancing competing deadlines.
* Presence and poise to make presentations and earn the trust of the CRO, CFO, and CIO.
