GROUP/DIVISION SUMMARY The Sample Prep business is part the BioSciences Division within Thermo Fishers Life Sciences Solutions Group. This business focuses on automating sample preparation for researchers and scientists and simplifying and optimizing the purification process for clinical samples. The Senior Director, Operations for Sample Prep will report directly to the Vice President of Operations for the Bioscience Division.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director, Operations is an experienced operations and business leader, who will provide thought partnership to the VP of Sample Prep and his leadership team, providing direct leadership to the manufacturing sites in Olso and Lillestrm, Norway. In addition, he or she will influence tactical execution, set strategic direction, and be accountable for operational performance for the Sample Prep products being manufactured at the Austin, TX, Carlsbad, CA, Joensuu, FIN, Shanghai, CH, Singapore, SGP, Vilnius, LTU, Monterrey, MX, Roskilde, DNK, Frederick, MD sites as well as a large number of OEM partners. Responsibilities require an intense focus on meeting customer (internal and external) expectations and delivering to financial commitments while fostering a culture of accountability, stringent commitment to quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

* As a Strategic thought partner to both the business and operations organization, you will be the single point of contact and trusted partner to the VP of Sample Preparation, developing, deploying and executing operations strategies, goals and objectives well aligned with both the Sample Prep business unit and BID Operations leadership teams.

* As a People leader you will provide direction and guidance to the Sample Prep Operations leaders in Oslo and Lillestrm and indirect leadership to eight internal sites and multiple OEM partners manufacturing Sample Prep products. You will do this in a multi-tiered organization of operation professionals by hiring, assessing and developing a collaborative, high performing team with a focus on continuous learning, growth and top performance. Mentorship, coaching and employee development are essential in building your exceptional team.

* You and your team will deliver excellent results by driving accountability and identifying process improvement programs that simplify and streamline otherwise complex processes. You will enable this by creating productivity opportunities to improve our standardized operational mechanisms. This is measured and managed through key performance indicators that promote visibility and continuous improvement. This includes identifying and recommending appropriate strategic operations actions (e.g., discontinuation, outsource, process improvement) to maximize profitability and supply.

* In prioritizing and leveraging global resources, this leader must execute robust Risk Management practices to maintain high continuity of supply in support of this global operations network. This requires managing the complexity of the operational needs within the Sample Prep business while ensuring alignment with the supply chain, quality, PPI, procurement, EHS and business operations functions internationally.

* Every effort is done with the strictest commitment to quality and safety standard and is responsible for ensuring full compliance to applicable Quality System Regulations, including the timely identification, development and execution of all corrective action plans as required and all supporting regulatory training, audit and product acceptance procedures.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in related discipline and/or equivalent experience. Masters Degree preferred.

* Minimum of 10 years of management experience in a complex manufacturing environment.

* Strong leadership ability with the capability to leverage diverse resources, respond quickly, understand the impact of changes and decisions, facilitate agreement, build collaborative relationships and focus on customer needs.

* Experience in Operations, R&D, or Engineering with expertise in managing and developing staff in a manufacturing and/or distribution operations environment is required, preferably with exposure to high volume, high mix, reagent, antibody and controls immunoassay production in an inter-disciplinary manufacturing environment.

* Extensive experience in a diagnostic manufacturing environment with thorough knowledge of a variety of laboratory chemicals, potentially hazardous chemicals, human source materials, and reagent manufacturing activities.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal and the ability to facilitate team interactions.

* Ability to work with individuals at all levels and within all functions to motivate strong results.

* Practical application experience in continuous improvement methodologies to improve processes, strengthen quality and drive efficiency.

* Strong analytical ability including the ability to effectively use data in problem solving and to evaluate process changes and impacts.

* Ability to partner with and influence key stakeholders including Finance, R&D, HR, Product Management and the Commercial team.
