Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a creative and driven senior candidate to lead development of AAV production platform in the BioMedicine Design (BMD) line of the Medicinal Sciences Organization. The candidate will capitalize on their AAV production experience to optimize processes for the advancement of AAV expression platform in the discovery space to support the gene therapy portfolio across Pfizer.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Lead development of purification platform for novel AAV capsids.
* Oversee and support all aspects of AAV production at various scales (including generating high quality material for NHP studies).
* Collaborate with groups across Pfizer to develop processes compatible with and capitalizing on existing internal knowledge/infrastructure.
* Routinely generate top quality data packages and present at project meetings.
* Propose experimental designs and work closely with cross-functional teams, project leads and senior group members on identifying/advancing best strategies and planning/executing deliverables.
* Mentor and support junior staff and build a culture of support and collaboration.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* PhD in Chemical/Biochemical/Biological Engineering or a related discipline with 2+ years of industry experience with mammalian expression of AAVs, purification and relevant analytical methods.
* Significant experience, knowledge and understanding of purification technologies and operations such as AKTA or automated protein purification chromatography, TFF or UF/DF, Depth filtration.
* Familiarity with the discovery and development of AAVs as therapeutics.
* Curiosity and passion for research with strong interest in synthetic biology and gene therapy, creative and flexible thinking.
* Ability to plan, organize, problem solve (troubleshoot), design experiments, work efficiently independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication skills, written and oral.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Related manufacturing or process development experience in biotech industry.
* Experience with library screens is a plus.
