Under general supervision, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of speech and language problems, and engages in scientific study of human communication. Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to education, medical, social, and psychological factors. Assesses and evaluates patient needs and provides inpatient and/or outpatient therapy and education to patients with a range of speech-language disabilities.

Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.

Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.

Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.

Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Responsible for the evaluation of patients to determine the disability and therapeutic need.

Develops treatment plan and goals based on the needs of patients.

Implements therapeutic plans, programs and services and monitor patient progress to evaluate plan effectiveness.

Completes documentation with patient confidentiality and legal requirements in mind and within the specified policy and procedure requirements.

Participates in team meetings and communicates with other team members in an ongoing manner.

Participates in continuing education opportunities to maintain up to date knowledge that are related to job.

Educates patients and families to conduct therapy at home

Serves as a consultant and provides training and learning opportunities as assigned.

Demonstrates ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the patient/family.

Must maintain current CPR certification.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

MastersDegree in Speech Language Pathology required. At least one year of previousexperience preferred. Must be Kentucky state Licensed and Registered Speech andLanguage Pathologist. Basic Life Support certification from the American HeartAssociation required. Management skills preferred.

Basicrequired skills include; organizational, customer relations, math, grammar andspelling, computer training, the ability to follow written and oral direction,and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
