The Emergency Services Registered Nurse promotes and restores patients health by completing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a given population based upon age specific and cultural needs. This is done in a collaborative multidisciplinary approach embracing quality and safety and providing physical and psychological support along the healthcare continuum.
Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Performs triage while considering both physical and psychosocial elements. (after (1) ONE year of employment)Works directly under physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments. Prepares and administers the prescribed/ordered medications and administers them under the 5 Rights. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of the medications by a licensed registered nurse.
Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation and prevention.Adheres to infection control polices and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substances regulations. Maintains competency and knowledge through current standards of practice, trends and developments in related scope of job role or practice. Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by the physician. Teaches the patient and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining; post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self administration of medications and rehabilitation, as well as provide referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment. Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment.Respects cultural and religious practices of the patients.Upholds HIPAA regulations.
Charge Nurse DutiesDemonstrates Competency and Professional Responsibility in the Charge Nurse RoleMakes Staff AssignmentsShift hand-off with off-going Charge RNCounts Narcotics (Both shifts)Checks crash cartsManages disposition of expirations within ER/Crash carts etc. Checks negative pressure roomsChecks equipment and ensures it is present and in proper working orderManage discharge call backs-For five (5) patients from prior day (Day Shift)Discharge rounding on five (5) patientsReview cultures and call/treat as advised Charge Nurse Report-Communicates any issues for Director follow-upEnvironmental Assessment-Ensure rooms stocked, equipment set up and in working order, IV pumps charged/available. Manages transfers In/OutManage employees in relation to job accountabilities Adjust staffing related to department volume and need (call-outs, flexing)Ensure SIM reports are completed by appropriate staff within 24 hours of event. For example: *Falls *Skin Integrity issues *Patient behavior issues *Against Medical Advise (AMA)Ensure proper SEPSIS, STROKE, STEMI care/documentation is completed by appropriate staffPsych patient care/documentation completed, psych checklist initiated and sitters managedModerate Sedation- *Ensure proper documentation (Consent, time out, PI tool completion)Manage patient flow within the department

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent Preferred X Required
Associates degree Preferred X Required Degree must be from an accredited and approved nursing program with the State Licensing Board.

Minimum Work Experience
ONE (1) year emergency room experience X Preferred Charge Nurse:X TWO (2) years of experience (with no corrective action on file) X RequiredX Must have working knowledge of the Emergency Department X Required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
