The successful candidate for this position will support the operations team with terminal compliance programs primarily in operational risk reduction, safety, and PSM in the Kinder Morgan Terminals MidWest Region. While this position supports the entire region, the role will primarily support 2 terminals in the Chicago area. This position also requires general knowledge of environmental regulations to support the EHS team through the continuous improvement of compliance programs, procedures, and policies associated with federal, state, and local EHS regulations. Primary responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to): learning and understanding the operational processes throughout the region to reduce risk to employees, complete required compliance tasks associated with Corporate, Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements, integrate and collaboration with the Kinder Morgan central organization to support the completion of all environmental tasks, drive operational efficiency through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions, auditing compliance with KMT policies, Federal, State, and Local programs and policies, and regulatory record keeping. This position requires the successful candidate to be knowledgeable of or capable of learning the operations as well as regulations and methodologies concerning program compliance opportunities within the industrial operations. The successful candidate must have a high bias for action, the ability to adapt to changing priorities, and a desire and willingness to integrate seamlessly with multiple different groups to grow the business and themselves within Kinder Morgan.

Manage EHS staff to provide EHS support throughout the region.

Manage, mentor, and develop the staff in succession planning.

Audit EHS and operational programs, identify gaps, and work with the team to implement corrective actions.

Drive safe work permitting processing with contractors and internal KM personnel to ensure safe operations and maintenance.

Support the analysis of EHS and operational trends proactively or as requested by peers, supervisor and management.

Administer the KM compliance Management program (OpsInfo) including deconstructing regulatory requirements (permits and plans), training teammates on these tasks, and providing weekly reports as requested.

Completing EHS compliance tasks on-time.

Ability to help troubleshoot operational upsets including but not limited to, compliance control equipment, fire protection assets, and safety devices.

Ability to respond in an emergency and participate in a formal Incident Command Structure (ICS).

Coordinate PSM/RMP processes as needed collaborating with the PSM/RMP Leader in the KM central organization.

Collaborate with the operations and KM central organization to make certain various air, water, waste, SPCC, etc. tasks are completed to ensure regulatory compliance.

Support and manage third party EHS contractors to ensure compliance with the federal and state requirements.

Effectively communicate changes to EHS procedures and policies to affected teammates.

Support the tracking of EHS compliance measures.

Train affected terminal employees and contractors on EHS program requirements.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules. Demonstrate behavior consistent with Kinder Morgan Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Program. Capable of adjusting work tasks according to areas that need immediate attention i.e., non-compliance, gaps, and/or audit findings. Ability to work independently to prioritize and manage workload while providing timely turnaround on tasks. Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, often under short or changing deadlines, in a diverse and fast paced environment. Participate in on-call rotation and take after hours phone calls as needed.

Maintain valid driver license and capable of driving KM vehicle

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC

Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to: walking up and down stairs/ladders, negotiating uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, ability to comfortably work on top of storage tanks, catwalks, conveyer systems, and material elevators to heights in excess of 100 feet.

Must be able to travel throughout the region as needed (OH, IL, IN, WI, MN, MO).

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: BA/BS degree in a technical discipline, such as Engineering, Environmental Studies, or Physical Sciences

PREFERRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE: Five to seven years in the EHS or Operations field ideally with compliance responsibility for manufacturing, terminal operations, or energy related industries.

Knowledge and familiarity with OSHA, ICS, USCG, NFPA, USEPA, and state regulations including PSM/RMP, Air, Water and Waste programs and/or EHS auditing background.

Background in industrial safety and OSHA regulations
