POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director, the manager assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the unit. In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality and quantity of services performed by the Sterile Processing Department. The manager advises senior management regarding the status of the quality improvement processes in the department. The individual anticipates and estimates the future needs of the unit to promote and improve the quality of services provided to Surgery, Cath Lab, Emergency Room, FMS, Wound Care, nursing units, and any other area needed. Collaborates and coordinates the efforts of the staff in the unit to accomplish the Mission and Values of the hospital. Dedicates 75% of the time engaged in clinical activities and 25% of the time engaged in managerial tasks.
Qualifications
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
Certified Surgical Technician and/or Certified Sterile Processing Technician in a healthcare setting.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates degree in healthcare field
Minimum of two years of managerial experience
Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in sterile processing, distribution, or as a scrub technician
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
* Read/write English with the skill necessary to understand and use medical terminology.
* Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds with assistance from staff.
* Knowledge of body substance isolation.
* Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patients, families, internal and external customers.
* Able to take call and respond within 30 minutes.
* Must have analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
* Ability to manage a team, to work with others, within a team, to ensure quality patient care.
* Knowledge of surgical instruments, tray set-ups, sterilizing techniques, and SPD practice.
* Ability to operate sterilizers and related equipment safely and efficiently.
* Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, nursing and Surgery personnel and hospital staff.
