Job Description

As a Urethane Development Chemist/Engineer in the Aerospace Transparencies S&T organization, you will support research and development activities investigating transparent aliphatic urethane process and product development.

Key Responsibilities:

* Contribute toward developing process improvements and new processes for urethane manufacturing at all Aerospace Transparencies locations
* Oversee pilot-scale operation and maintenance of the Max Urethane Dispensing Equipment (Max Machine) in a research and development environment
* Sample processing, production, and handling
* Perform routine and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
* Maintain and improve casting cell inventory, ancillary equipment, and lab space
* Stocks consumables necessary for casting operation and equipment maintenance
* Actively maintain and awareness and engagement in casting production and downstream manufacturing
* Contribute to other research and development activities on site and at plants as needed
* Direct the daily activities of lab technicians

Qualifications:

* Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
* B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or similar field
* Prior experience operating and maintaining urethane dispensing equipment and other instrumented machinery
* Adherence to safe and ergonomic work practices and compliance with all environmental, health, safety and security protocols as specified by PPG personnel or documented procedures including the ability to handle chemicals in a safe manner and practice good lab hygiene
* Experience with standardized testing methods
* Experience with hand tools, metal working/fabrication, or other demonstrated mechanical aptitude including maintaining/repairing electrical and/or mechanical devices
* Excellent oral and written communication skills with technical information, data organization, report writing, and presentation skills
* Aptitude and willingness to continually learn and expand skill set
* Good interpersonal and communication skills; being a team player is a must.
