What you will be doing

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Broadcast and Spacecraft Operations, the Vice President of Spacecraft Operations will be responsible for leading its 24-7 operations team on the execution and integrity of a growing fleet of spacecraft. This team oversees flight operations, engineering and analysis, management of the Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT&C) systems infrastructure, oversight of the Satellite Operations Center and engineering support for the Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) business segment.

The successful candidate will be empowered to develop, validate and implement processes and procedures for a fleet totalling more than 20 satellites. He or she will lead fleet capacity and contingency planning, and both determine and report satellite health to C-level executives.

In this role, you will:

Investigate, analyze, resolve and determine root cause of spacecraft anomalies;
Ensure proper operation of TT&C ground and network systems;
Manage RFI, RFP and RFQ for new spacecraft and lead ITAR and EAR awareness and compliance;
Ensure compliance with national and international governmental and regulatory agencies;
Set and monitor challenging Objectives and Key Results (OKR) targets for all teams, ensuring cross-organizational alignment;
Ensure meaningful and challenging goals, development plans and performance appraisals for all employees;
Serve as an agent of change within the company, driving technological evolution across the workforce.

Skills and experience

This leader will play a vital role in DISH’s growth and long-term success. He or she will have the opportunity to lend their vision to how DISH engages, collaborates and ultimately competes in the marketplace. As a result, we expect potential candidates to meet a level of education and experience that demonstrates they can be successful in this role.

The ideal candidate will have:

15 years experience in spacecraft engineering and operations, with a minimum of five years managing a team in operations;
10 years experience in leadership positions that include direct supervision of staff in a spacecraft operations environment;
10 years of demonstrated success managing staff, subcontractors, cost and schedule in complex, multinational satellite systems;
Experience managing international operations a plus.

The successful candidate will have:

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related technical discipline (physics, astronautics, etc.).
Master of Science degree in a related technical discipline (networks, computer science, spacecraft operations, space systems management, engineering, physics, etc.).
Understanding of advanced video delivery methods, software, IP, broadband, satellite, network security, digital hardware, satellite communications and ground station technology;
Proficiency with Google Platform and Microsoft Office.
