PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Packaging Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving the packaging process to safely produce products that consistently meet customer requirements at the lowest possible cost.

Knowing Our Customers

The Packaging Manufacturing Engineer will have responsibility for:

* Being a subject matter expert on the critical product characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product
* Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure our products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations
* Supporting trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet our customer's fitness for use
* Understand current manufacturing process capability, drive to reduce variation, and ensure product quality and consistency to improve the overall customer experience.

Process Performance

The Packaging Manufacturing Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

* Analyze product and process data to optimize performance. Identify and implement packaging process improvements and best practices.
* Utilize problem solving tools as required to identify root causes and prevent reoccurrence.
* Provide automated packaging equipment technical support to the operations and maintenance departments to help troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to PLC and HMI programs.
* Support the TPM process through Daily Management and participating on AM area or Pillar Teams as required.
* Minimize equipment downtime and failures by analyzing production data to determine indicators of impending system failure modes.
* Support the instrumentation, control, connectivity, and analytic solutions around manufacturing equipment and operational assets.
* Support plant maintenance and operations teams in packaging controls systems and equipment troubleshooting, and in technology transfer.
* Work with members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and improved efficiency.
* Enablement (sensing and acquisition) and use of data (analytics) with automated packaging equipment to drive increases in productivity, product quality, and business feedback.
* Work to generate and refine data that can be consumed by others to develop stronger cross-organization understanding of manufacturing operations performance and production capabilities.

Leading and Developing Talent

The Packaging Manufacturing Engineer will have responsibility for:

* Development and participation in both formal and informal training programs designed to teach personnel the operating and troubleshooting techniques for packaging equipment and controls systems
* Partner with employees to develop and implement Operator Control Plans
* Partner with AM to develop and implement Operator Based Care plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent training, knowledge, and experience
* Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing or technical environment
* Completion of an engineering related Development Program or similar experience preferred
* Controls and Automation experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Understands and works with basic principles of engineering
* Understands statistical concepts including trial design, data analysis, control charts, process capability and design of experiments to drive process improvements
* Working knowledge of the following manufacturing process control hardware (Allen Bradley PLC5 and SLC 500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix etc.)
* Experience in PLC I/O Modules (Point I/O, Flex I/O), PLC I/O buses (Profibus, Fieldbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet. etc.)
* Experience in Sensors and Sensor Software (Level, Pressure, Temperature, Proximity switches, Encoders, pH, vision, position indication, etc.)

Ability to travel 5-10%
