Overview:
The Data Engineer provides development of useable data sources by acquiring, integrating, shaping, and automating data that can be used in predictive and prescriptive modeling. The Data Engineer must possess an intellectual curiosity to learn and apply new techniques and programming languages and must have the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with others across the organization. At this level, individuals will have demonstrated the ability to streamline the process for acquiring, transforming, and delivering data to end users, in an efficient and timely manner. The engineer supports analytics projects of varying sizes and complexities which may result in altering or developing new company projects and standard operating procedures. The position will serve as support to other components of the data science process. Acts as the primary point of contact for understanding how to integrate and automate data from any platform.
Responsibilities:
* Create data pipelines from source systems to various databases.
* Clean and Wrangle data for future use.
* Collaborate with Data Scientists to provide data for prescriptive and predictive modeling.
* Effectively create data dictionaries for various sources.
Requirements:
* Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science or related area.
* Three or more years of related exempt work experience in the Data Engineering field.
* Experience with Agile and or Scrum.

At the highest levels in this job family the work performed will tend to be of a complex nature involving knowledge of various functional/specialized disciplines where the work responsibilities can only be proficiently performed after a relatively long training / experience-related time period and often requires an advanced degree. The work environment often includes dealing with risk and limiting exposure.
Leadership, management, facilitation and interaction with senior management will be markedly increased at the mid - highest levels of this job family while the need for direction and supervision will be markedly decreased. While problem solving and analysis will likely be required at all levels, recommendation and implementation becomes the norm at the highest levels and will often have a major bearing on the companys business. In addition, skills such as the ability to think on your feet, composure under fire and effective communication across all levels of the organization and with outside stakeholders become more finely honed at the higher levels.
Essential Functions:
Conducts a variety of standard and complex analytical functions: Data mining and cleansing, use case identification and implementation, data analysis, trending and forecasting, predictive modeling, machine learning, visual management creation and communication, statistical research; recommending and implementing modifications to processes, policies, and procedures. Collects, compiles, and analyzes information from various sources on a variety of topics, including operational, performance, budget, and risk analysis. Participates in the development of the corporate and departmental goals; maintains analytical toolsets; implements adjustments as necessary. Prepares executive level reporting, presentations, summaries, and correspondence; creates comprehensive technical records and reports; Prepares staff reporting for presentation to the Board of Directors; Performs cost benefit evaluations of proposed use cases; makes determinations related to the overall benefit of use cases and alternatives; implements policies and procedures accordingly; provides ad-hoc reporting; ensures a high level of accountability on all projects; Performs long-range analytics development planning; forecasts the impacts of potential future events; provides responsible, accurate, and thorough technical and administrative project support to executive leaders; operates variety of office equipment. Observes safe work practices and safety methods; performs other duties as assigned. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel:
Meet travel requirements of the position. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. Travel to various sites within Consumers Energy headquarters is estimated to be up to about 20% of your time.
