The Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) organization is seeking highly motivated Materials and Processes Engineer (Level 2) to join the BR&T team at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. As a part of this team, you will be involved in supporting various Boeing Space and Launch programs. This position will be hands on and require the ability to operate laboratory instruments and work in a lab with typical laboratory chemicals.
This individual will be working in a material lab and providing production support. This will include assisting technicians on applying materials and reviewing production planning to ensure M&P requirements are incorporated. In addition, this person will perform materials acceptance and qualification testing.
Position Responsibilities:
* Collects information to support definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the manufacture and engineering design of products
* Incorporates changes to specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes
* Performs tests to qualify new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements. Assists with activities to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
* Conducts basic analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes. Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions
* Develops basic computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements. Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
* Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.
This is a NASA Safety Sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
* Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
* 2+ years of engineering experience
* Experience working in a laboratory environment
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
* Bachelor's Degree or higher in Material Science or Chemical Engineering
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
