Our groundbreaking Augmented Molecular Design (AMD) team located in Lake County, IL is looking for a motivated and driven Principal Research Scientist to join our team. With patients at the heart of all we strive for, we are committed to ensuring our team can provide the experience and support needed for our drug discovery organization to excel in research excellence! As a member of our team, you will develop modern, cutting edge, cheminformatics techniques, and related software, in order to improve the drug discovery paradigm at AbbVie!

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop methods for data mining and statistical analysis of very large datasets.
* Develop methods for archiving and retrieving data on molecular structures, reaction pathways, molecular interactions, and other phenomena to gain insight and further improve the drug discovery process.
* Collaborate with discovery scientists to solve problems using data searching, retrieval, and analysis.
* Identify chemical property classifications and trends from large databases using mathematical techniques in order to gain insights and subsequently refine and improve next generation drug design cycles.
* Enhance AbbVies current suite of informatics tools to further drive competitive advantage in cheminformatics and drug design.
* Oversee, classify, collaborate, and recommend improvements for AbbVies overall small molecule screening collection.
* Design and develop novel tools for analyses and visualization of chemical, biological, and structural data
* Collaborate closely with discovery colleagues globally to enhance the overall CI and drug design platform at AbbVie.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

* Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Chemistry or closely related field
* Typically 14+ (BS) 12+ (MS) or 6+ (PhD) years of experience; Industry experience preferred
* Best-in-class credentials in computational chemistry, biology, or relevant areas of computer science and applied mathematics.
* Excellent research skills and experience in developing and demonstrating cutting-edge cheminformatics design are a requirement
* Proficiency with analysis, presentation, and visualization of medicinal chemistry data using commercial software packages (e.g., Spotfire, Pipeline Pilot, Cresset suite of tools, and Schrodinger tools etc.)
* Working knowledge of Oracle and web technologies (Angular.js, Node.js, D3.js, HTML5, REST or other) is highly desirable
* Prior experience developing or working with Cloud-based technologies such as Amazon Web Services is preferred
* Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to influence multidisciplinary teams, a strong reciprocal work ethic, ability to adapt to changing needs, and the capacity to multi-task to meet key goals
* Significant track record delivering high-impact results and timely solutions within a collaborative environment
* Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential to success in this position
