Responsibilities

Perform secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. Possess organization and communication skills. Maintains emotional stability and calm disposition, and has ability to relate positively with all levels of professionals. Has ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions. Possess willingness to improve. Loyal, reliable, tactful, honest and discreet maintaining confidentiality at all times. Exhibits professional appearance. Must be able to carry out specific assignments to successful conclusion.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):

Education:

High school diploma or GED required
Completed a Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant
3. Must maintain CPR certification

Work experience:

1. Minimum of one year of clinical experience required.

2. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, and other office procedures and terminology.

3. Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

4. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Essential Job Duties

1.
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures, charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.

2.
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing charts to ensure information is completed and accurate.

3.
Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records, ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.

4.
Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include; respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly.

5.
Greets and registers patients in a prompt, pleasant, and helpful manner. Provides necessary instructions/directions. Informs appropriate department/person of patient's arrival.

6.
Updates patient information, collects co-pays, provides any necessary forms needing completion, obtains signatures as necessary.

7.
Maintains and updates current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.

8.
Other duties as assigned.
