The Technical Writer opportunity is a part of the Digital Science division which delivers market-leading laboratory and data management solutions. This role will reside in Branford, CT.

How will you make an impact?

As a Technical Writer in the Digital Science business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific you will collaborate with various teams to produce high-quality user documentation and eLearning materials to support all product offerings. You will plan, execute, and deliver documentation projects in an agile environment with a strong focus on quality, usability, and overall customer experience. All projects follow our internal quality management system, using a variety of tools to create, revise, and review product user documentation, create and revise eLearning materials, and support translation initiatives. You will collaborate with other team members to discuss, plan and execute documentation-specific projects to support a variety of organizational initiatives. What will you do?

* Collaborate with the software engineering team to gather information.
* Create new and update existing content for product user documentation and eLearning material.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of documentation standards across the product portfolio.
* Review user documentation.
* Develop expertise in technical communication.
* Assist in project management.

How will you get here?

Education/ Experience

* Degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, Chemistry or related field with an emphasis on technical documentation or equivalent years of relevant experience.
* Minimum of 2+ years as a technical author in a software development environment.
* Educational equivalence may be considered.
* Experience in writing instructional, training or presentation material in a scientific environment. This may include SOPs, presentation of papers at conferences, and dissertations, as well as manuals or help systems.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Windows platforms.
* Experience with analytical instruments preferred.
* Knowledge of LIMS, SDMS, ELN, and LES preferred.
* Understanding of cloud-based applications/services preferred.
* Experience with API documentation preferred.
* Experience working in a software development environment highly desired.
* Knowledge of a foreign language highly desired.
* Experience with one or more of the following: SaaS and PaaS software delivery models, JIRA and Confluence, Adobe Captivate, Mad Cap Flare, Author it, MS Office, CSS, HTML, XML.
* Flexible and proactive with the ability to work in an environment of constant change.
* Ability to work alone or as a member of a team.
* Strong communication skills.
* Highly organized.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to work to deadlines, estimate work, and escalate issues as appropriate.
