Job Description

The Contract Specialist Level II utilizes their extensive contract knowledge and legal experience to respond to RFQs and earn customer contracts. Must be able to communicate well with cross-functional business partners to ensure contracts comply with varying stakeholder needs. Requires an individual who can work well with high levels of detail and deadline pressure.

Responsibilities:

o Review, evaluate, and prepare various types of sales related documents (i.e., Purchase Orders, RFQs, RFPs, Solicitation/Tenders) for compliance with corporate and divisional policies and procedures.

o Review government-public contracts at the federal, state and local levels.

o Possess a working knowledge of the legal, financial, regulatory and business risk in sales order, contract and subcontract terms and conditions and must be able to communicate these exposures effectively and efficiently to company decision makers, when necessary.

o Understand the basics of commercial sales such as pricing, delivery, warranty and payment terms.

o Apply risk profile/assessment matrix across product families using corporate guidelines and escalate agreements as required.

o Resolve and finalize agreement terms directly with customer personnel and internal stakeholders.

o Understand revenue recognition, contracts/production holds and book and ship activities.

o Familiarity with review and how to respond to applicable topics in a request for quotation (RFQ), request for proposal (RFP) and the like.

o Work with team to propose alternative contract terms acceptable to the company when customer and company terms and conditions differ.

o Interface with various groups such as sales, order management, legal, finance, etc. and across the entire Thermo Fisher Scientific organization.

o Maintain updated centralized contract files and a centralized database of reviewed and negotiated agreements and bids.

Support Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodology and participate in initiatives as required.

o Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

o Bachelors degree or HS diploma and 2-7 years contracting experience with 3 years experience in government contracting preferred.

o Good judgment in balancing business and commercial needs and potential risks/exposures with customer requests.

o Detail oriented with a high degree of integrity, intensity and involvement.

o Demonstrated ability to work within tight schedules and under pressure, both independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative / integrative style of working to reach common goals and objectives.

o Must be flexible and receptive to change in the workplace.

o Good communication skills both written and oral.

o Proficient with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with CRM is a bonus.
