Job Description

As a Coatings Technician, you will be responsible for assisting a laboratory that supports the industrial coatings segment. This will encompass preparation and application of coatings, and testing these coatings against a wide range of specifications and customer requirements. Incumbents will operate under supervision and execute tasks as directed to the desired timelines, but will be expected to follow through on assigned responsibilities independently.

Key Responsibilities:

Under supervision, conduct experimental work such as the formulation, application and testing of coatings
Aid in the analysis and interpretation of experimental results
Work toward technical milestones and prioritize to deliver results within agreed timelines
Flexibility in daily activities due to shifting priority
Maintain and grow an understanding of relevant formulation and applications processes, as well as evaluation of samples using established methods
Maintain an organized lab notebook, organizing and communicating results to chemist/supervisor
Work safely, following all lab procedures and contribute to the maintenance of high safety standards
Be or become familiar with SOPs and ASTMs pertaining to everyday chemicals and testing procedures
Participate in all safety protocols and 5S initiatives and help to maintain the laboratory equipment and inventories
Keep a clean work environment, to include the execution of routine upkeep activities in support of the entire lab

Qualifications:

A High School diploma or GED is required
Strong math skills and high school chemistry is preferred
Ability to read and interpret complex customer specifications
Computer skills including Word and Excel are required
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and well with others
Previous work in a coatings laboratory environment preferred
