As a Quality Engineer you will provide leadership and expertise in quality and the manufacture of industrial paints and coatings. This position will provide more rigor to our quality processes to allow for improved corrective action management both for customer complaints and manufacturing issues. The Quality Engineer will focus on our effectiveness metrics which are a direct measure of how well we meet our customers expectations as defined in the PPG Quality Policy.
The position will need to work with all functional areas of the Greenville plant to improve the performance of our Quality Assurance program. The key initial focus areas include an improvement in causal analysis from resolving root cause to implementing corrective actions that address the root cause. This will include training and support of all stakeholders of the corrective action process for Greenville The Quality Engineer also will manager shot and long term quality process improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyze First/Second run capabilities for production batches to develop improvement plans to improve QC lab throughput and to reduce customer complaints
* Lead problem solving activities for defective batches identified in the field and for batches that are processing abnormally with the goal of reducing customer complaints and sub-standard product generation.
* As a trained and certified lead auditor, conduct all types of internal audits: management system, manufacturing process, product, and layered process audits.
* Oversee the quality program documentation such as procedures and work instructions to be compliant for ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
* Develop and implement an improved gage R&R program for the QC equipment at the plant
* Working with field resources, gather customer requirements for the Greenville products and ensure that they are implemented into our quality processes.
* Conduct correlation studies and recommendations for new lab equipment for measurements such as liquid color and Hegman grind.
* Strong knowledge of problem solving techniques and tools with ability to creatively analyze complex problems
* Excellent oral and written communication skills with the proven ability to work well and collaborate with cross-functional teams
* Proven ability to motivate change and obtain results
Qualifications
* BS in Chemistry or Engineering
* Minimum of 5 years of experience
* Green belt is preferred
* Prior experience in quality is preferred
* Experience with an external facing role with customers and/or suppliers is preferred
