Yard Truck Operator

The primary role of the Yard Truck Operator will be to move and spot trailers to facilitate the needs of the Building. The Yard Truck Operator is responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand equipment and positioning.

A day in the life

* Moving trailers in and out of docks or around the truck yard in Inbound, Outbound, and Returns while being responsible in maintaining a neat and orderly storage lot oriented to maximizing efficiency in servicing the needs of the building.
* Operate the yard truck in a safe manner under 15 mph in and around the Nordstrom building and staging areas during numerous drop and hook scenarios daily involving loaded and empty trailers.
* Be cognizant that the operation is a low mileage function requiring attention to preventative maintenance checks and services. Must be aware that operations occur on concrete and gravel surfaces in an environment that can often be contaminated with material subject to embedding in tires.
* Must interact in a professional manner with building personnel daily and comply with building safety requirements. Communicate using 2-way radio with front desk receptions, operations, and building personnel.
* Security of valuable commodities (loaded trailers) and the storage lot itself are a major area of concern for the Yard Truck Driver. Responsible for accounting for records involving trailer numbers, lane origin, and lane destination. Accurate, neat, and timely records are of the utmost importance to the overall successful operation of the Building and Transportation functions.
* Open and willing to work in an alternative department taking personal initiative or as directed by the Management team, when/if Yard Truck Operator downtime should occur

You own this if you have

* A current CDL Class A license is required
* At least 6 months experience driving a commercial vehicle
* Excellent driving record
* Excellent safety awareness
* The ability to comfortably operate a semi truck with a trailer and be exposed to all weather-related elements
* Must pass a physical exam, criminal background check, DMV background check, and DOT testing for a class A drivers license as required by the Iowa DOT
