Data Governance Analyst - Job Family

Job Description

Introduction

The purpose of the Gas Data Governance Analyst role is to drive the strategy development for gas asset data improvements, including changes to how data is collected, stored, and used across the gas segment. The data governance team will be responsible for documenting key gas processes, including data flows within the work process, and create KPIs to monitor critical data elements to ensure data quality is maintained.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities for all Job Family Levels

* Document and build business cases for data gaps to support prioritization of data improvement efforts within the Asset Knowledge Management Roadmap
* Establish and sustain a data governance structure across the gas segment, including policy, process, and roles responsibilities for data owners and data stewards
* Monitor and report data quality KPIs for critical gas asset data elements, including measurement of completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
* Maintain documentation for critical gas asset data elements, including a data catalog, process memos, and data flow diagrams
* Collaborate with engineering, construction, and field operations to understand the data needs of the business
* Collaborate with Manager Risk Assessment and Asset Process Owner on recommended changes to improve asset data availability and quality, bringing the perspective on how the change will improve risk modeling capabilities
* Attend trainings and network with industry SMEs to continuously learn about leading developments in risk assessment approach, gas assets, gas system operation, and the business planning process

Required Qualifications for Position

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

All Analyst Levels

* Excellent oral, written, presentation and listening skills
* Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques

Analyst

* Ability to understand and document where gas asset data resides, how it gets there, where it is used by the business
* Ability to perform data analytics at the direction of leadership

Senior Analyst

* Analyze information from a variety of sources to detect trends, associations, cause-effect relationships and other anomalies and make recommendations.
* Effectively manage time to ensure deadlines are met and quality is achieved.
* Consistently builds relationships and work collaboratively with different parts of the gas segment as well as other parts of NiSource.
* Ability to perform ad-hoc analysis independently that considers completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of gas asset data quality
* Ability to review data quality metrics and exercise judgment on what trends and variances warrant further analysis

Lead Analyst

* Proven ability to work across departments collaboratively to resolve issues, drive issues to closure, achieve desired results/goals, and/or implement change as needed
* Build detailed analytical models, analyze data and make fact based recommendations that support business decisions
* Ability to utilize experience and knowledge to identify and implement process improvements for how the data governance team supports gas asset data quality
* Sufficient knowledge of gas segment processes to make recommendations of potential improvements to close data gaps
* Lead projects to analyze new issues and apply learnings to improve data governance policy and process for gas assets data

KEY WORK EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

All Analyst Levels

* Bachelors Degree in job-related discipline
* Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques

Analyst

* Job-related experience, 0-2 years

Senior Analyst

* Job-related experience, 2-5 years
* Requires multiple functional experience
* Experience developing management dashboards
* Experience working with large data sets

Lead Analyst

* Job-related experience, 6+ years
* Requires multiple functional experience
* Working knowledge of operations support systems (e.g. WMS, WMSDocs, COGNOS, DIS, PowerPlant)

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

* Experience using data analysis tools and techniques
* Experience with Microsoft Visio or other similar diagram tool
* Experience building and/or using probabilistic models
* Experience working in a company with strong data governance
* Graduate Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
* Leadership experience
