Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Mechanical Design Test Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals working within the Structures Test Team, which is part of the Test amp; Evaluation Directorate. This position will be at NGAS South Bay Center of Excellence (COE) located in El Segundo, CA.
Position Overview:
The selected Staff Mechanical Design Test Engineer will design, develop and implement structural tests for mechanical hardware and support equipment in an engineering development environment.
The selected candidate will provide engineering design, fabrication, setup and test of large and subcomponent level structures specific to aircraft and annual recertification proof load testing of program and capital support equipment. The selected candidate will direct operation of structural and systems test related equipment; direct setup and conduct tests, perform inspections, make modifications and adjustments as appropriate; interface with engineer and technician teams, develop and work from blueprints, sketches and other engineering information. Other duties may include design and test engineer support to environmental, static and durability testing.
Essential Functions:
* Will lead the test engineering support and oversight of structural tests.
* Plan and arrange labor, schedules, and equipment required for test and evaluation of standard and special devices.
* Independently oversee work packages with limited oversight.
* Supervise and contribute to drawing and procedure development and release.
* Provide coordination, oversight and leadership to test lab technician staff and support management in other project administrative duties.
* Propose, design, develop, and implement mechanical testing per established processes.
* Design, specify, analyze, and procure, or produce test aids and support equipment needed for safe, efficient execution of mechanical tests.
* Interface directly with management and customers to ensure expectations, testing and results meet all relevant requirements.
* Coordinate with instrumentation, stress and other engineering staff on test requirements, design and execution strategy.
* Compile data and define changes required in test equipment, test procedures, manufacturing processes, or new test requirements.
* Compile test data, complete initial test data review, produce and release formal test engineering report for assigned tests.
* Plan, develop and execute Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Post-Test Critique Reviews for assigned tests.

Qualification
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor rsquo;s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of STEM related engineering experience, or a Master 39;s Degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of experience, or 9 years of experience with a PhD.
* Direct hands-on CAD design experience in both modeling and drafting modules.
* Experience working in a mechanical test engineering environment directing/conducting mechanical tests.
* Experience leading engineering design and test teams.
* Experience in test design reviews, test reviews, and test reports/reporting.
* Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time to off-site locations as needed.
* A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance is required to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
* Nine years of design engineering experience in an Aerospace, Mechanical, or Test Engineering environment.
* Knowledge of standard rigging procedures, hydraulic power, actuators, and system load application.
* Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office with strong technical writing amp; interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate and present technical material to various stakeholders.
* Experience in application of multi-channel load control system.
* CAD proficiency in NX, and knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and applications.
* A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (PAR/SPAP).
