2nd Shift (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm)
Starting Pay: $22.16, +$0.60 Shift Differential
General Description: This position drives a shag tractor/trailer and a large straight truck (26,000 lbs or more) transferring inventory between the warehouse and production facilities. May also make deliveries of Burke Marketing Corporation products to customers throughout the state of Iowa. The individual is required to contribute to harmony in the workplace and in Burke Marketing-customer relationships.
Essential Functions: Transfers inventory between the warehouse and production facilities; delivers products to area customers by truck; picks up raw materials, supplies, and equipment from suppliers and outside warehouses; delivers and picks up materials for further processing; fills out inbound meat forms and signs freight tickets; verifies Bills of Lading; maintains the upkeep of vehicles; performs minor repairs on vehicles; maintains logs and expense reports; operates shag tractor to move semi trailers around shipping yard; travels throughout state and occasionally out of state; assists during monthly inventories; performs pre-operational checks on trucks; knows and follows USDA guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practices. Will be required to work with information deemed to be confidential information and/or trade secrets owned by the company. Will be required to protect the company's rights in and ownership of those trade secrets and/or confidential information.
Other Functions: May perform general housekeeping duties; may train others in work of this position; may assist workers in Production and Shipping Departments.
Safety Considerations: The individual is expected to exercise appropriate care to avoid injury to self and others.
Training Requirements: This position requires up to 2 weeks of on-the-job training.
Equipment: Shag tractor/trailer, straight truck, electric pallet jack, combos, pallets, fork lift, ramps.
Physical and Environmental Characteristics: Required Physical Activities: Standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 110 lbs, stepping up and down, bending, sitting, stretching, reaching, climbing.
Physical Characteristics of Work: This position will spend majority of time loading and unloading trucks and transferring inventory between warehouse and production facilities. Will lift a maximum of 110 lbs.
Environmental Conditions: Climate controlled office and truck. Will be exposed to temperatures of
-10 degrees for limited periods of time. Freezer may have ice/frost on the floor. Will be exposed to changing conditions in driving weather.
Effect of Errors: The effect of errors, incompetence, or inadequate performance of this position could result in lost or late shipments, production downtime, excessive delivery costs, deterioration of customer relationships, loss of prestige, and loss of customers.
Required Contacts of this Position: This position has daily contact with customers. Additional contacts include staff and management at all levels and vendors of truck maintenance services.
Review of this Position: This position is reviewed by the Shipping Supervisor with the advice and counsel of the Distribution Manager.
Personal Qualifications: Must have a Class A Iowa Commercial driver's license, a current D.O.T. physical card, and commercial truck driving experience. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively in person and on the telephone. Must be well groomed, have a pleasant personality, be self-motivating, courteous, tactful, cooperative, and work efficiently and accurately with little direct supervision.
