Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) Research is dedicated to research and development required to deliver Facebooks vision of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experiences that ship in five to ten years. FRLs Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) team is developing a non-invasive system to enable anyone to use their brain to interact with devices. As an Electrical Engineer, you will work with the multidisciplinary engineering and research team to design, integrate, and characterize prototype hardware systems for neural interface technologies.
Hardware Systems Electrical Engineer Responsibilities
* Design and integrate electrical systems, including architecture, component selection, PCB schematic and layout, bring-up, writing RTL, characterization, and integration
* Integrate electronics with optical, mechanical, firmware, and software components, as part of a multidisciplinary team, to create prototype neural interfaces
* Characterize, debug, and test systems using bench-top laboratory equipment and scripting
* Work closely with researchers to understand their goals and elicit system architecture requirements
* Take prototypes to increasing levels of fidelity, ranging from proof-of-concept demonstrations to integrated systems
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience in a related field
* 3+ years of industry experience in electrical hardware design
* Experience with schematic and board layout using Altium, Cadence, or equivalent
* Experience with board and system bring-up, debug, and characterization using bench-top laboratory equipment
* Experience with RTL (Register-Transfer Level) coding (Verilog or VHDL) and FPGAs
* Solid understanding of PCB layout principles, including signal integrity, power layout, desense, DFM, etc. Experience with rigid and flex PCB technologies
* Experience integrating electrical systems that include components such as optoelectronics, communication interfaces (e.g., MIPI, USB, I2C, SPI, PCIe, etc.), sensors, FPGAs, microcontrollers, amplifiers, power supplies, low-noise circuits, ADCs, DACs, and power sequencing
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Python and C++
* Exposure to medical imaging or scientific instrumentation system development
* Exposure to integrated circuit design
* Experience in consumer product hardware design and exposure to DFM (design for manufacturing) principles
* Exposure to a start-up environment or a research environment
* Experience leading technical projects, cross-functional teams, and vendors
* Experience in any of the following technologies: infrared spectroscopy, single photon avalanche diode (SPADs)
