Job Description

Facebook seeks a highly motivated team player with experience handling intermediary liability issues to serve as Counsel, IP, with a particular focus on copyright. The role will tackle cutting-edge issues on a global scale arising from content posted by users on Facebook, Instagram, and the companys other services that may be infringing third parties IP rights. Days are fast-paced and action-packed, and the ideal candidate will be eager to roll up their sleeves and problem-solve on matters of all kinds, while working closely with various teams across the company.

Counsel, IP Responsibilities

* Counsel business units on IP issues relating to content posted by users on the companys services, particularly involving copyright infringement

* Advise on policies and systems built to support copyright protection, and collaborate with legal colleagues on other company products raising IP issues

* Develop and apply policies and practices arising under local and international laws, such as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), E-Commerce Directive, and EU Copyright Directive

* Work closely with global teams across departments and offices, including operations, product and engineering, sales and partnerships, communications, and policy

* Coordinate legal advice with an international network of outside counsel

Minimum Qualifications

* JD degree and membership in at least one state bar

* 3+ years of attorney experience focused on intellectual property, from in-house or at a law firm

* Experience with IP intermediary liability issues and laws (DMCA, E-Commerce Directive, EU Copyright Directive, etc.)

* Demonstrated experience assessing legal, practical and business risks

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with internet or technology companies

* Experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and making judgments under deadlines
