Job Overview/Summary

The Buyer I is responsible for performing intermediate level duties including purchasing materials and supplies within prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures. The Buyer I ensures an uninterrupted supply of materials, and identifies cost reduction opportunities. The Buyer I manages the day-to-day supplier issues and relationships from an operational and tactical perspective.

Key Responsibilities

* Utilize SAP to plan and process purchase orders, with internal and external vendors, for any procured materials to support manufacturing operations. Report on actual and planned material delivery status.
* Plan, create and execute purchases as required based on system generated requisitions and purchase orders. Obtain purchase order acknowledgements from suppliers.
* Track and expedite orders and complete related follow-ups to assure delivery is complete by scheduled date.
* Complete purchase order data entry, change orders, amendments, and other related documentation as well as data maintenance of purchasing Info records.
* Create stock transfer orders to move raw materials and packaging components between warehouse locations and/or toll sites to support production. Create delivery notes for these stock transfers.
* Compile vendor/supplier scorecards to ensure vendors/suppliers meet established targets for quality, delivery, and the products and services.
* Create and prepare reporting to track open orders, supplier confirmations, and delivery dates to ensure communication of order and delivery status.
* Maintain adequate floor stock inventory levels to meet production requirements.
* Analyze inventory levels, demand/spend profiles and lead times for components involving purchasing decisions.
* Conduct market analysis, price, and cost modeling activities.
* Review supplier procedures and practices to identify opportunities for cost and schedule improvements. Accountable for supplier cost reduction and cost avoidance commitments.
* Collaborate with business units and project management staff to quote and source new materials and suppliers. Source multiple, alternate suppliers for all materials. Obtain competitive pricing quotes. Request and track samples for QC approval.
* Maintain vendor relationships and work with regulatory to monitor vendor compliance.
* Meet or exceed established department metrics, such as reduced COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) and Purchase Price Variance.
* Challenge department processes to create continuous improvement to achieve higher levels of productivity and customer service.

Key Skills, Abilities and Experience Required

* Bachelors degree in business or related field; or equivalent experience required
* Minimum 3 years of professional sourcing/supply chain experience in a manufacturing setting required
* Proficiency in Excel - Pivot tables, v-lookups required

Preferred Education and Experience:

* CPIM and/or CSCP certification.
* GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) experience.
* ERP and/or SAP system experience.
* Bilingual (English & Spanish).
