Shift Maintenance Supervisor - Decatur Corn Plant, Decatur IL
This is Salary Exempt position.
Job Summary:
The shift maintenance supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of shift maintenance colleagues that support plant production needs. This supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and efficiency of the shift maintenance team.
Essential Job Functions:
* Participates in continuous colleague development by performing interviews, new hire orientation, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions and enforce adherence to policies and procedures.
* Contributes to cost management efforts by monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions.
* Participates in equipment zero failure efforts by evaluating functionality and reliability of production systems and associated equipment by conferring with operating departments; identifying problems, researching and implementation corrective actions.
* Enhances preventative maintenance programs by evaluating the function and reliability of production systems and associated equipment.
* Participate in focused improvement efforts of production systems and associated equipment by studying performance results; identifying, recommending, and implementing changes.
* Is a safety leader by participating in safety programs and improvement efforts, actively promotes a healthy work environment by following company policies and procedures.
* Takes an active role in maintenance skill enhancement by researching, developing and leading educational opportunities for maintenance colleagues.
* Review the scope of work and perform field walkdowns for approved work orders to determine the scope and required resources to complete the work.
* Edit work orders in CMMS by inputting all the necessary planning information that insures safe and efficient execution of jobs.
* Order all required materials, perform receipt and quality verification prior to executing work
* Perform frequent backlog reviews and remove completed workorders
* Communicate the status of ongoing work with department leadership and make work plan adjustments accordingly
* Assign duties and examine work during and after completion to ensure safety, quality, completeness and conformance to policies and procedures
* Coach, mentor, and provide technical support to instrumentation, mechanical, electrical and operating technicians as related to the areas of responsibility.
* Acquire materials proper resources for ongoing jobs as job scope changes
* Understands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.
* Responsible for utilizing the Performance Excellence process.
Job Qualifications:
* Two-year technical degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology is preferred
* Extensive training and experience in industrial electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic applications.
* Training and experience in process controls and instrumentation applications.
* Extensive knowledge and experience with our CMMS (Maximo)
* Detailed understanding of a food manufacturing plant operation and maintenance.

* The scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed
* Inside areas:
* Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees
* Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing
* Outside areas:
* Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity; may be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind
* Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below; may be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow, and wind
* Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to thirty (30) pounds on a frequent basis, up to fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis
* Lifting or carrying of weights over fifty (50) pounds is rare; employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than fifty (50) pounds
* Ability to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day
* Ability to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently during the course of a work day; may require periods of prolonged sitting or standing
* Ability to operate equipment or diagnose/detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding, or other work at heights
* Full range of physical motion is required in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights
