Job Summary
Indianapolis Power & Light is seeking a protection and control engineer to work in the substation engineering department. The successful candidate will be tasked with the development and execution of utility substation protective relay designs and studies. He/she will work either alone or as part of a team to design, review, direct and or support substation protection and control projects. Projects are fast paced and technically challenging. The Indianapolis Power & light substation team is a dynamic group that work together to solve problems quickly and provide reliable solutions for our customers and the community.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
* Complete substation protection and control designs including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementary, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring.
* Detailed analysis of existing protection schemes to identify weaknesses and propose improvements.
* Application and interconnection of SCADA and communication systems within the substation.
* Relay settings calculations and system coordination studies.
* Create and analyze transmission and distribution relay settings and logic diagrams.
* Iteratively work to achieve best design outcome considering cost, project scope, constructability, and consistency with existing practices.
* Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
* Act as a representative of Indianapolis Power & Light to the public and our customers.
* Interact and consult with other substation team members to incorporate existing standards and practices into substation designs.
* Develop engineering equipment and services specifications.
* Manage project documents.
* Assist with equipment procurement.
* Ensure project schedules are met.
* Support construction activities with technical expertise.
* Routinely Interact with operational and engineering groups within Indianapolis Power & Light
Required Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education
* Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems from an ABET accredited program.
* Any experience level will be considered
* Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently
* A high level of interpersonal communication skills, including a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills
* Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
* AutoCAD software skills is a preferred
* Professional Engineer registration or plan to become registered is preferred.
* Prior utility or consulting experience is a plus
