The Surgical Technician's primary role is to assist surgeons in the FMLH operating rooms . They are responsible for preparing patients OR rooms and equipment for surgical procedures. The ST works as a member of the team at the surgical field itself handing instruments to the surgeon as necessary and helping to manipulate the patient and the wound to enable the surgeon to work effectively as well as receiving instruments and supplies from the circulator.
Surgical Technicians work under the direction of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective care of our patients during the surgical procedures ensuring that the operating room environment is safe that equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy surgical procedures and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Most Surgical Techs eventually choose or are selected for a service pod. In others words they specialize. This is an important aspect of their development. We see our Surgical Techs as professionals and we are invested in seeing them deepen their skills--in other words moving from novice to expert in particular procedures--as well as broaden their skills--learning new procedures and services. We have service line specialties that provide the Surgical Technician with a wide range of surgical specialties. These include Neurosurgery/ Ear/Nose/Throat/Oral Orthopedics/Plastic Surgery Gynecology/Urology General/Oncology Transplant/Vascular and Cardiac/Thoracic Surgery. Requirements for Surgical Tech Level 1:
* High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
* Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program is required.
* American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required upon hire.
Requirements for Surgical Technician Level 2:
* One year or more as a Surgical Technologist experience is required
* High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
* Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program is required.
* American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required upon hire.
Requirements for Surgical Tech Level 3:
* One year or more as a Surgical Technologist experience is required
* High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
* Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program is required.
* American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required upon hire.
* Surgical Technician Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologist is required.
