Job Description

As a Chemist II you will support the evaluation and implementation of state-of-the art coatings application technologies in the Global Applications Research Lab, with an emphasis on Business growth and long-term development of new technology.

Key Responsibilities

* Responsibilities include planning and conducting fundamental research, and Test Drill activities in support of multiple PPG businesses.
* Identify new technology opportunities through cross-business and external collaborations, as well as literature searches, competitive analysis, and intellectual property reviews.
* Assist in identifying relevant application technologies, and adapt coating technologies for application using these novel processes.
* Apply coatings using novel technologies, and evaluate process and coating performance.
* Establish relationships between coating composition, application properties, and final appearance and performance properties.
* Network effectively, and collaborate with other PPG scientists and engineers across S&T, as well as well as technical and commercial contacts within PPG Businesses.
* Maintain and operate in a safe working environment.

Qualifications

* A degree in a technical field such as Materials Science, Chemistry, or Engineering is required.
* Previous industrial experience
* 1-3 years in coatings-related product development is highly desirable.
