Hardware Systems Engineer, Compute Responsibilities
* Work with technology-strategy, hardware performance, technical program management, and sourcing teams to determine Facebook's computation needs and define system problems.
* Understand workload and operation requirements, system performance and power analysis, solution options, and generate compute system technical requirements
* ensure the design is flexible, and scalable across the SW/FW/HW stack.
* Build prototype for proof of concept, to quickly explore variety of options with good understanding of both technical and business impact, and demonstrate effective collaborations with cross functional partners and stakeholders.
* Fully responsible for delivering hardware system products to desired functional/operational state and towards deployments, by working closely with external vendors and internal SMEs.
* Collaborate with and influence external partners and open source communities to accelerate innovations, and create options for FB infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications
* BS in Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
* 8+ years of experience with defining, developing, and troubleshooting compute hardware systems
* Skills in server system hardware design, and system trade-offs analysis
* Experience with Linux and scripting for server system setup and evaluation
* Knowledge with system firmware and management firmware of compute server systems
* Knowledge with server management system
* Skills to abstract, breakdown, analysis, and drive solution to complex problems
* Communication and documentation skills
* Skills in adapting and learning based on collaboration, team growth, business, and technology needs
Preferred Qualifications
* MS or PhD in computer engineering or electrical engineering
* In-depth Linux OS and software knowledge of compute systems
* Experience with development and debugging BMC and system FW
* Experience with debugging and evaluating protocol of memory and/or I/O buses (DDR, HBM, PCIe, CXL, CCIX, or CAPI)
* Experience with debugging and evaluating protocol of storage buses (NMVe, NVMeoF, SATA, SAS)
* Experience with engaging with application customers, and running benchmarks on compute or storage systems
* Experience with performance and power trade-off, optimization, and debugging
* Knowledge with hardware security in server system
* Experience of working on large scale data center deployments as operator or supplier
* Experience with industry consortium engagement
