The Business

Security, Compliance, and Privacy Engineering (SCOPE) is a newly formed central function serving all VMware product and services teams in VMware. This is a horizontal role reporting to the Head of Central Engineering Services, with potentially VMware-wide impact. The leader must also foster and maintain a strong partnership with the office of the Chief Security Officer (CSO).

Responsibilities

We are looking for a transformational executive leader to drive SCOPE's charter, provide strategic guidance, develop and deliver tools/services, and train all VMware engineers to deliver highly secure, compliant, privacy-first products and services. (S)he will manage a team of 150+ engineers, product/program managers, and SMEs and be responsible for making sure all of the VMware products and services offered to our customers meet these requirements. We expect the leader of SCOPE to drive both transformational and cultural changes across all engineering to ensure that security, compliance, and privacy becomes part of the DNA of VMwares product development culture. Head of SCOPE is also expected to drive cross-product and security of solutions developed on top of VMware products, and be accountable for developing and enforcing the policies that come out of CSO. The organizational north star for SCOPE is to achieve secure and compliant by design out of the box for all VMware products, services, and solutions.

Qualifications

* Executive leader with track record of recruiting, developing, retaining, leading and inspiring highly effective teams
* Transformative, strategic thinkerand do-er
* Demonstrated management track record in engineering, product development and delivery of both complex enterprise class on-prem software products and cloud services at scale.
* A team player and leader who works effectively in a team-based organization, collaborates cross functionally and can build support and alignment across multiple business units.
* Enterprise product and service shipping experience with modern SDLC and SDL practices.
* Solid understanding of software and cloud services standards and compliance, including, but not limited to, FedRAMP, PCI, HIPAA, FIPS, Common Criteria, STIGs, etc.
* Trained in software development, organization and leadership from a company well-known and widely respected for world-class software development processes and practices.
* Ability to influence a large group of strong engineers directionally to drive a cultural transformation.
* BS/BA in Computer Science or related field/degree. Advanced degree strongly desired.
