The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial segments that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

The purpose of the Optical Design Engineering Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for immediate and future needs.
Description:
Summer engineering intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems. This is a dynamic position for an individual to work as part of Corning Advanced Optics optical design team to model, tolerance and analyze complex optical systems from concept to completion.
Primary duties will encompass developing optical simulation and analysis tools to aid in understanding optical performance of lens systems between hardware laboratory measurements and theoretical design. Person may also engage in assessing new lens opportunities for performance and manufacturing build strategies.
Qualifications:
* BS or MS Candidate, having completed at least three years' higher education. Coursework in geometrical optics, physical optics, aberration theory and interferometry.
* Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Working knowledge of analysis tools such as Mathematica, Mathcad, or Visual Basic programming in Excel.
* Experience with major optical design software desired (e.g. CODE V, Zemax, LightTools, ASAP, etc.).
Duration:
* Summer 2021, 8-12 weeks Corning Advanced Optics is an industry leader in the manufacture of high precision optical systems for lithography and inspection applications, metrology measurement tools and laser components.
