Purpose/Objective of the job

This role requires a dynamic team leader who is a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders in Enterprise level functions across the organization, including executives in US Commercial Leadership, Worldwide Commercialization Strategy & Capabilities, Worldwide and US Medical, R&D Clinical Trial Operations, Corporate Affairs, and other enterprise functions. The individual in this role publishes regular thought leadership and provides Customer & Market Insight solutions to create competitive advantage for the company in key strategic areas, including:

* BMS market leadership across therapy areas

* Commercialization innovation and capabilities (marketing & sales effectiveness, multichannel capabilities, customer engagement)

* BMS reputation and effectiveness with Medical, R&D and Corporate Affairs external stakeholders.

The individual in this role is also a strategic partner to the VP, Customer & Market insights to advance function capabilities and operations excellence, including:

* Setting and delivering function strategic priorities

* Fostering innovation of insights capabilities and integration with analytics

* Providing governance for the seamless and compliant operation of the function

* Facilitating global community and capabilities sharing across US, Global, and International Markets teams

* Communicating function impact and success stories

Must enjoy collaborating in a highly matrixed environment to impact decisions across the enterprise, across therapy areas, throughout brand lifecycles, and across Worldwide, US, and International market contexts. Key member of the Customer & Market Insights Leadership team and Business Insights & Analytics Function, who can create an environment of talent vitality, advance innovative insights capabilities, enhance integration of analytics capabilities, bring transparency to stakeholders, frame complex business issues, and streamline operating structures.

The leader of this team will manage two direct reports, supplemented by two to four full-time contractor positions, as well as strategic projects teams composed of members throughout the department.

Key Responsibilities and Major Duties

Business Influence & Impact

* Guide the Enterprise Insights team to influence business decisions within assigned scope of US Commercial Leadership, Worldwide Commercialization Strategy & Capabilities, Worldwide and US Medical, R&D Clinical Trial Operations, Corporate Affairs and other enterprise stakeholders.
* Coach the team in the development and application of appropriate market research tools and techniques, integrated secondary & other analytics, meta-analyses across therapy areas, and regular thought leadership publications to proactively shape business strategy and drive effective execution for growth and profitability.
* Provide subject matter expertise and influence enterprise action on short and long-term issues affecting the companys competitiveness and reputation in the industry, including: customer engagement model & experience, multi-channel capabilities & innovation, diversity & inclusion initiatives, short-range agility on emerging industry or market issues & trends, long-range planning and future-proofing for emerging mega-trends, science and technology.
* Provide integrated, strategic perspectives and guidance to the business stakeholders in close collaboration with other members of the Business Insights & Analytics matrix team.
* Ensure customer & market insights are effectively and efficiently communicated as strategic consultants to the business, applying consultative story-telling and data visualization techniques. Identifies opportunities and risks, and through the facilitation of discussions with stakeholders, translates them into actionable recommendations.
* Challenge the business stakeholders to adopt appropriate market research activities that are consistent with driving the business. Restrain the business from sustaining the status quo in favor of innovation and taking appropriate risks when selecting work to be done.

Functional Impact

* Facilitate advancement of cutting-edge insights capabilities by guiding market research agency relationships for co-innovation, engaging as the BMS lead with key external insights associations, and creating forums for internal engagement and collaboration across therapy areas and markets. Supports the team when developing customized non-standard research solutions to address complex, multi-faceted tactical and strategic business issues.
* Oversee the operational excellence of the function for speed, quality and compliance. Where necessary, challenge the status quo to drive simplification, speed, and robustness of process. Interface with IT, Pharmacovigilance, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement, Law & Compliance, Quality, and other matrix stakeholders to facilitate operational interdependencies. Guide upgrades and utilization of supporting software platforms to for market research project management and knowledge management. Lead change management and communication forums to enhance operational excellence.
* Appropriately influence and prioritize functional activities, budgets, and resources in line with business needs, creating synergies and eliminating duplication and low value activities.

* Lead direct team in a manner that creates high engagement and facilitates an agile team approach capable of adapting to the dynamic and fast-paced needs of the business. Facilitate function-wide communication in support of the VP, Customer & Market Insights to advance strategic imperatives and team engagement.
* Consistently develops people through coaching, rewards and recognition, and providing experienced based developmental opportunities across BI&A. Empowers decision-making to the right level in the team, and provides individuals with on-going feedback and coaching consistent with his/her performance and development needs.
* Provide consulting and facilitate engagement with the broader Customer & Market Insights and Business Insights & Analytics team members across US, Worldwide and International markets. Develop a sense of team both within Customer & Market Insights and with the broader BI&A organization.
