Job Description

Northshore Mining Company, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc., is a taconite mining and processing facility located in Northern Minnesota. The mining facility is located in Babbitt, MN, and the processing plant is located in Silver Bay, MN, on the north shore of Lake Superior.

The primary function of this position is to provide mechanical maintenance coverage for the Silver Bay Plant Site. This includes responding to production loss breakdown repairs and schedules maintenance activities. These individual must work closely with operations to execute repairs and identify proper work. These individuals work four 10-hour shift per week or 12-hour rotating shifts, however, schedule adjustments may be done as business conditions warrant.

PLEASE NOTE *** CANDIDATES CHOSEN FOR AN INTERVIEW WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE A MAINTENANCE ASSESSMENT AS PART OF THE INTERVIEW PROCESS.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Repair and maintain equipment plant-wide.
* Identify and repair safety hazards, and assist with incident investigations.
* Use computerized maintenance management system (Ellipse) for work order record keeping and inventory withdrawal.
* Work safely and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

* Minimum of 2-year degree in welding, automotive, heavy equipment maintenance, machining or at least 2 years of directly related full-time work experience is required. 2-year degree in industrial maintenance or millwright is preferred.
* Preference for candidates with industrial experience in pumps, mechanical drives, conveying equipment and millwright skills.
* Must be able to use a computer. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems software is preferred.
* Good troubleshooting skills and proven mechanical aptitude.
* Excellent attendance record.
* Excellent safety record and genuine concern for safety in the workplace.
* Must be highly motivated, have an exceptional work ethic, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to function well in a self-directed team environment.
* Must be proficient in three position welding.
* Advanced welding certification is preferred.
* Must achieve a satisfactory score on the Northshore Mining Maintenance Assessment.
* Must be willing to work shift work.
* Must be willing to modify work schedule and assist throughout the plant as needed.
