We are currently seeking an experienced Engineer with excellent analytical skills to guide the engineering and construction department in developing and applying standards that result in the most cost effective, reliable transmission and distribution system. The individual in this position will develop and maintain construction standards and specifications for the transmission and distribution system at both Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) and Dayton Power and Light (DPL) that includes new technologies, materials, methods and products.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
* Create standards and identify new materials to design, construct, and maintain a quality system while continuously analyzing and striving to make improvements
* Develop and maintain construction specifications. Review existing technical standards against the asset risks and recommend changes to the standards where required to ensure the risks are managed and draft the changes to the standards
* Identify requirements for new standards, draft the standards and manage their development and implementation
* Research and prepare major material purchase specifications for equipment
* Research and evaluate new products
* Review equipment and material failures and implement necessary corrective measures
* Provide technical guidance to distribution system design and construction departments
* Develop, publish, and distribute construction specification books to ensure all system construction will meet strength and clearance requirements and to minimize construction costs, while meeting standards and codes
* Lead standards committees for the development and implementation of new and existing standards.
* Provide support to assigned technical committees and committee leadership that develop electric standards
* Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations
* Perform, document and publish equipment ratings
* Assist other engineers, team members, and supervisor by developing, compiling, and providing technical data
* Update and manage databases as required
* Prepare or support incident investigations, equipment failure analyses and reliability studies
Required Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education
* BS degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
* Five years experience in electric distribution, transmission or substation engineering in a utility focused environment
* Current Professional Engineer license with ability to obtain PE in Indianapolis or Ohio
* Knowledge and ability to apply National Electrical Safety Code. Knowledge of and able to apply the requirements of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC).*
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Power emphasis in Electrical Engineering
* Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel between IPL and DPL
* Drafting software skills
* Job location is in Ohio, Dayton or Indiana with flexible work arregements possible
