The Laboratory Assistant performs task related duties within the Lab. The Lab assistant has the ability to perform phlebotomy duties on all age groups. Performs CLIA-waived testing within the Laboratory. This position has appropriate knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the growth, development, and clinical needs of age specified populations. Assists the Laboratory Manager to order; place into stock supplies delivered to the Lab, being sure to correctly rotate with current supply; properly receives specimens entering the Lab by accessioning, writing requisitions on the log and communicating to the technologists all incoming work; organizes and prioritizes work in order to complete work competently and effectively and in a timely manner; files and copies if indicated, reports in laboratory and physician files and maintains duplicate report file as indicated; answers phones and directs calls as appropriate; observes principals of date security/patient confidentiality; assists in training of new staff; maintains positive attitude, functions as a team player, and maintains inter-intra department communications; interacts with other health-care workers to solve problems; attends and participates in department meetings; performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent Required

Minimum Education
Documentation of course completion of basic Phlebotomy from college, technical or vocational school preferred.

Minimum Work Experience
Previous phlebotomy experience in medical office, laboratory or similar setting preferred.

Required Skills
Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment; Telephone/Overhead Paging System/Fax Machine/Calculator/Computer. As pertinent to the position, must be able to use computer, telephone, calculator and adapt to new technology as it becomes available and necessary for the job. Must have a positive attitude, even temperament in stress/conflict situations.

Required Skills
Licenses: If required to drive on company time, must have valid Drivers License and Proof of updated insurance.
