Job Description
Folsom Validation Labs seeks a highly-skilled and motivated technician to work in a post-Silicon system validation environment. This environment will involve testing and development of Intel's CPU, Chipset, and Discrete Graphics products to ensure they will provide the highest quality of functionality to end users. Technician will be responsible for product execution and debug of platforms and products, which not only involves running tests from a pre-defined test plan, but also taking ownership of the physical equipment from cradle-to-grave. Technician will be fully collaborating with members of multiple engineering teams to ensure that all test results provide the highest level on confidence in validating Intel products. While there will be structured communication of daily responsibilities, a fair degree of independence and technical judgement is required to maintain a stable testing environment and debug issues that occur along the way.
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Own product execution for one or more technologies
- Collaborating with fellow technicians and engineers to physically setup the environment used for testing, including PCs, motherboards, temperature control, and test & measurement equipment (i.e. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and signal generators), along with installation and configuration of all software used for testing.
- Maintain the systems used for testing, including circuit reworks and hardware changes, software and firmware. Re-configure systems for various test cases.
- Run test cases according to a defined test-plan, reporting out results to engineering teams
- Investigate test failures that occur, attempting to distinguish between actual device failures vs failures induced by the testing environment.
- Assist engineers in further debugging failing devices to help find underlying Silicon bugs, helping to set up and run special experiments.
- Protect the sanctity of the test environment and data integrity, by keeping all testing and maintenance in compliance with the highest safety, security, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Increase the throughput of testing while decreasing the margin of error through increasing automation capabilities and developing time-saving scripts.
- Help drive continuous improvements in the validation environment to deliver the highest rate of return for validation activities, using Lean and 6S methodologies among others
Qualifications
A Highly Successful Candidate will Demonstrate the Following Competencies:
- At least 2 years of experience working in an environment that validates physical semiconductors and/or computer hardware components, knowing how to handle and diagnose failures.
- Strong understanding of PC component architecture (CPU, motherboard, memory, storage, video, USB, networking, wireless) and how variations to each component affect overall PC functionality and performance
- Strong knowledge of the Windows and Linux OS, especially identification of unexpected behavior caused by physical hardware issues.
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits and digital logic systems
- Experience with Python and ability to run tests and debug components from command line interfaces.
- Basic understanding of using oscilloscopes to analyze low and high-speed electronic signals
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative to complete assigned tasks, while quickly reporting results and challenges to customers.
- Ability to work on multiple assigned tasks and projects, and appropriately manage priorities.
- Demonstration of strong written and verbal communication skills
