Job Summary

The Open Heart Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:

Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process.

Participate in the unit based Quality Improvement process.

Supports, maintains, and provides an environment, which is supportive of quality patient care through effective use of resources and personnel.

Practices, develops, and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.

Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patients right to privacy by protecting confidential information.

Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on a total assessment and age of the patient.

Evaluates and documents patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of the patient.

Promotes and displays a positive customer oriented demeanor to patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.

Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered.

Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.

Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medial error or unanticipated outcome in the patients care which results in patient harm.

Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education, training, and competency assessments.

Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Current license as a RN

Current certification as a BLS and ACLS Healthcare Provider

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

1+ Years of experience as a RN in an OR setting required

Customer service abilities including effective listening skills. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment. Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.

West Florida Hospital is a 515 bed facility and the only Atrial Fibrillation Certified hospital. WFH has also been honored as a Truven Top 100 Hospital and just recently received their Joint Commission Sepsis accreditation. Additionally, WFH was the area's first Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI and Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. We are also an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
