Ensuring that our platform is a safe and positive force for the communities on Facebook is one of our most important responsibilities over the next few years. Our vision is to create a better, safer, more inclusive platform, through the power of communities. That said, designing for the diverse and numerous communities that use our platform requires specific skills focused on understanding diverse communities, and how equity-centered design and development can transform our platform. We are building a full-time product team focused on development best practices that center equal value, achieved by equitable outcomes, for our highly diverse user communities. Our mission is to create the most equitable experience for our global communities. While weve had multiple efforts in this area across both Instagram and Facebook, were forming this new dedicated team within Facebook in order to help centralize and accelerate our progress in this critical space. As a company, we want to prevent any bias in our systems, products and policies as it runs counter to providing a platform for everyone.

This individual will work on projects that help make Facebook App an equitable product for everyone. The Researcher will build strong partnerships with cross functional on this team, working closely with data science, PM, policy, design, and engineering, using research insights to drive strategy and develop better frameworks, tools and measurement systems to support equity in our products. We also often work collaboratively with our research counterparts across the Facebook family of apps.

The right candidate is an excellent communicator, knowledgeable and passionate about fostering safe, trustworthy, equitable, and meaningful social ecosystems, comfortable in a flat, fast moving organization, and excited to collaborate and drive impact across a large organization and influence leadership. The ideal candidate has a track record of driving organizational influence through a people-first lens and thrives in a growth-mindset culture elevating other researchers. Additionally, were looking for individuals who are truly passionate and have demonstrated success in developing and implementing Diversity & Inclusion strategies in product.

UX Researcher, Equitable Development Responsibilities

* Work closely with the Product Lead on equitable development for Facebook App to identify research topics and be able to help operationalize equity-centered development throughout research

* Design studies that address user behaviors and attitudes

* Generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate designs

* Conduct research using quantitative and qualitative methods, and interpret analysis through the lens of UX, HCI and social science

* Collaborate closely with other researchers

* Work cross-functionally with design, product management, content strategy, engineering, data science and marketing

* Partner with engineers, analysts, and other technical roles to create and share research

* Ability to ask, as well as answer questions

Minimum Qualifications

* Master's degree in a human behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Social Science, Information Science, etc.)

* 5+ years of experience in applied research

* Experience with survey design and response effects

* Understanding of qualitative and user-centered design methods

Preferred Qualifications

* PhD in human behavior related field (HCI, Psychology, Social Science, Information Science, Journalism, etc.)

* Experience working with large scale data in multi-method studies

* Experience with applied statistics

* Demonstrated success developing and implementing D&I strategies

* Experience working with marginalized communities

* Experience as a D&I subject matter expert within a dynamic organization
