Purpose of the Job

Crown is looking for a sustainability professional to help lead the end-to-end implementation of its global corporate sustainability program, Twentyby30 (https://www.crowncork.com/sustainability). Providing oversight for its strategy while being responsible for the implementation of each goal and KPI across all Crowns global businesses and operations.

Position Description

This position requires a deep and broad knowledge of the relevant sustainability landscape for manufacturing companies, knowledge of the circular economy and climate action, and an appreciation of the value of data management and reporting. This role is expected to work cross-functionally in a geographically diverse culture, and should care deeply about the environmental, social, and governance impacts of the Company. The Director, Global Sustainability will coordinate throughout a multifunctional and matrix organization, This person will be a champion of the companys sustainability initiatives to both internal and external customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies and will engage on sustainability issues throughout the Company from facility-level to C-suite.

The Director of Global Sustainability will report directly to the Vice President of Sustainability, who reports to the Chief Operating Office. You will own the execution of our Twentyby30 commitments as well as build the strategic thinking for collaborations needed to implement the program. You will collaborate with our divisions operations teams to create and elevate a sustainability culture. You will also work with corporate functions such as EHS, HR, CT, PM&E, procurement to ensure the delivery of goals that depend on action at the corporate level. Additionally, you will collaborate with industry associations, customers, third party vendors and other partners to build collaborations on topics such as increasing recycling rate, water stewardship and GHG Scope 3 emissions.

Responsibilities

* Lead and guide the Twentyby30 agenda across Crown global business operations by partnering with divisions, business and country teams in process operations, engineering, PM&E, EHS, procurement, communications, D&I, HR, legal and governance and ethics
* Assist on the design of Crowns matrix sustainability organization, identifying and leading the implementation of systems and communication channels needed to support execution of the Twentyby30 program through engagement of resources embedded in each division and business; taking into consideration business cycles and organization capabilities
* Build a strong environmental sustainability culture across all plant operations, while identifying and building the underlying resources and capabilities each global business requires in order to deliver the Twentyby30 program
* Build measurable and impactful multi-stakeholder collaborations with customers, industry associations, NGOs and other partners to implement Crowns goals related to increasing recycling rates, water stewardship, climate action and community engagement
* Ensure Crowns environmental sustainability data governance, responsible for all data needed to monitor, measure and report progress of each Twentyby30 Program goal, ensuring data is reported in a reliable and timely manner
* Collaborate with corporate functions, divisions and business to continue the development of Twentyby30 Program short and long-term implementation roadmaps, identifying actions at the plant/business/corporate levels required to deliver Twentyby30 on a timely manner. Responsible for monitoring and driving the implementation of the roadmap actions at the corporate level
* Develop, manage and report on the progress of each goal implementation through a corporate scorecard
* Develop and lead the implementation of a resource efficiency program aimed at identifying, deploying and replicating best practices and technology necessary to deliver Crowns goals to reduce fuel, electricity, water, waste and raw materials use, as well as reduction of material spoilage. Responsible for the overall best practices strategy and development and deployment of supporting tools
* Assist Company in the evaluation of sustainability-related projects by analyzing factors such as cost-effectiveness, technical feasibility, business value, public impact, and integration with other initiatives
* Act as global point of contact for the operational teams on all environmental sustainability topics, becoming the operations teams go-to-person on environmental sustainability processes and best practices
* Engage in the preparation of responses to customer and investor enquiries, and corresponding with various external stakeholders and agencies.
* Keep abreast of sustainability developments by participating in the broader sustainability community including, but not limited to, membership-based organizations and industry events. Proactively keep apprised of global regulatory developments that may impact the way the company conducts business as well as evolving best practices
* Support the governance and operation of a formal Sustainability Steering Committee, including the facilitation of the Committees evaluation of policy development, program needs, goal setting, internal and external reporting, and integration with various management systems
* Develop, coach and mentor the organization about existing and new ESG-related topics with the potential to impact the Company, and anticipate and research corporate sustainability trends
* Act as the sustainability communication hub across divisions, functions and stakeholders. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring that sustainability communication across all Company is consistent and collaborate to gain the information required for formal reports and social media

Job Requirements

Skills and qualifications

* Bachelor in engineering and/or science fields related to sustainability, with graduate level degree in environmental sustainability (minimum of masters in environmental sustainability related field is required)
* 5 years of experience in leadership roles (senior manager+)
* +10 years of experience in environmental sustainability topics
* Analytical, results oriented, with experience in managing data and using advanced Excel
* Strong project planning skills with the ability to work of multiple projects and initiatives involving multiple senior stakeholders throughout the Company
* Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and set short, mid and long-term objectives
* Experienced performing and analyzing lifecycle assessment (LCA) is highly desirable
* Extensive leadership experience and capability. Solid business acumen and understanding of business levers
* Experience working cross-functionally, and across multiple geographies and cultures, especially in global corporate teams
* Executive presence and ability to build trust and win support across various levels within the organization
* Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills. his role will communicate the Twentyby30 program strategy and implementation progress to executive leadership and external stakeholders
* Broad experience with external stakeholder communication including knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks including, but not limited to, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)
