You Will Be Responsible For:
1. Assist physicians performing procedures:
1. Prepping and draping the patient
2. Passing instruments, guide wires, catheters, etc.
3. Monitoring patient blood pressure as directed by physician
4. Maintains integrity and sterility of equipment and supplies throughout the procedure
5. Selects proper technical factors and positioning to demonstrate anatomy and suspected pathology
6. Utilizes immobilization devices as appropriate for the safety and comfort of the patient
7. Recognizes and communicates the electrocardiographic and hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure
8. Documents accurate and pertinent data concerning the patients condition during procedure and reports data to the appropriate person
9. Performs general diagnostic procedures as necessary
10. Prepares patient in a timely fashion and notifies physician promptly
11. Demonstrates a working knowledge of drugs commonly used in the Cath Lab / Special Procedures Lab.
2. Utilizes knowledge and skills in giving safe and effective patient care:
1. Identifies the total needs of the patients
2. Ensures proper procedure and precautions are followed
3. Plans for and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for the patient
4. Carries out those activities delegated by the physician, which concern medications, treatment, and diagnostic measures
5. Demonstrates the ability to learn and practice new techniques and equipment utilization by attending training sessions and familiarizing self with new procedure revisions as they occur
3. Documentation of patient care:
1. Prepares designated forms and records pertinent information of records
2. Documents accurate and pertinent data concerning the patients condition during procedure and reports to the appropriate person
3. Prepares patient (preps and shaves) in a timely fashion and notifies physician promptly
4. Facilitates implementation of physicians orders accurately, promptly, and courteously
5. Files all patient data and films in accordance with established department system on a daily basis
4. Infection control procedures:
1. Assists with the cleaning of rooms
2. Cares for specimens properly and handles their disposal correctly
3. Adheres to approve standards of aseptic technique during a cardiac catheterization and special procedures, utilizing equipment and supplies in a safe and prudent manner
5. Transportation of patients:
1. Transports patients from and to his or her room and gives report to the unit nurse
2. Moves, lifts, assist patients appropriately to procedures table and provides for maximum privacy during procedure.
6. Radiation safety:
1. Uses radiation protection devices as appropriate for protection of operator and patient
2. Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to insure radiation safety to self, fellow employees, visitors and physicians.
7. Supply management:
1. Prepares and stocks procedure room and supplies and equipment necessary to perform special invasive procedures
2. Prepares and verifies daily the function of equipment necessary to the department
3. Returns all contaminated/soiled supplies according to procedure
4. Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner
8. Performance improvement:
1. Assists in collecting and documenting quality improvement data
9. Availability of services:
1. May be required to work longer than regularly scheduled shift when situation requires
2. Will be required to take on call on a regular basis including weekends
3. May be required to assist in areas other than regularly assigned areas as needed
10. Function in accordance with specific policies and procedures within the scope of services for all patient populations unless specified otherwise; adolescent, adult and geriatric for the Special Procedures Department and upon the order of the medical staff.
Performs other tasks and related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
* Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac catheterization procedures, complications, processes, and products.
* Requires satisfactory completion of a formal radiological technology, surgical technology, paramedic, respiratory therapy, cardiopulmonary, or cardiovascular technology program and subsequent licensure or certification (if applicable) upon hire or within 90 days.
* BLS and ACLS certification (within 90 days of hire)
Job Summary:
The Cath Lab / Special Procedures Tech I will ensure the delivery of safe and effective patient care for this discipline. This position requires the Cath Lab / Special Procedures Tech I to be knowledgeable and proficient in the treatment of interventional and diagnostic cardiology and radiology for inpatients and outpatients under the direction of the Cath Lab / Special Procedures Manager, Administrative Director, and the Medical Director. This position requires intimate knowledge of both departmental and hospital policies and procedures relating to the field of Cardiology and Radiology. Will follow same standard as New Grad RN program and after one year of employment, management review, and skills evaluation will consider pay increase with Manager and Director approval.
