Director, R&D Engineering (Ion Chromatography and Sample Prep)
Location: Sunnyvale, CA

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Research and Development (R&D) Engineering will lead a multi-disciplinary technical organization responsible for the design and development of Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation instrumentation and related consumables. The Director of R&D Engineering will provide technical vision, leadership, and strategic expertise driving product and technology development to meet portfolio roadmap objectives. Critical to the role, this individual is responsible for developing and empowering the R&D Engineering team, retaining and developing diverse talent and maintaining an innovative, collaborative and inclusive culture. Also, this individual must have the ability to deliver value and manage both breakthrough and incremental innovation, drive global and cross-functional business unit teams focused on delivering new products or upgrades to existing products, continuous improvement to optimize time to market and monitors program timelines and budgets from initiation through product launch. In addition, the Director of R&D will be responsible to support field investigations, maintain product lifecycle sustaining projects, transfer of new products to operation, and development of related procedures while adhering to all applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
The Director, R&D Engineering will have responsibility for providing leadership and focus to meet or exceed the business unit objectives as follows:

Functional Leadership in New Portfolio and Technology Development

* Acts as a member of the R&D management team co-responsible for achieving its long-term results. Plays a critical role in maximizing the ROI of our current and future product portfolio.
* Leads a multi-discipline engineering team (locally and globally) and determines the departments objectives, policies, processes and budgets.
* Experienced in developing complex workflow systems solutions e.g., instrument, chemistry, firmware, software and sustaining engineering
* Provides oversight to ensure all engineering projects remain on schedule and on budget while meeting all performance, cost and quality specifications in a regulated manufacturing environment.
* Manages and drives the engineering teams Intellectual Property strategy & execution
* Engaging with field leaders and staying on the forefront of latest technologies with full understanding of market trends, customer full workflow and needs, ad competitor technology trends
* Experience interacting with remote factories in launching new NPIs
* Leverages PPI and Lean to drive continuous learning & improvement in R&D Engineering
* Helps define, in partnership with other functions within the business unit, which programs should be executed and in which priority.
* Allocates the right capabilities and capacities to the prioritized programs.
* Ensures that there are adequate resources and tools at the proper time, is responsible for the technology and architecture in the department and is responsible for maintaining and improving the departments knowledge and expertise.

* Supports the definition of the R&D portfolio
* Gains alignment to support goals by integrating R&D and other disciplines such as Marketing and Product Management using a partnering and consultative approach

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in related field and Masters or PhD in the sciences
* 10+ years total experience wit a blend of management and R&D experience
* Strong team leadership and group management skills, with ability to effectively prioritize
* Effective communicator both across and outside the organization
* Experience creating a climate of innovation and helping managers understand innovation preferred. Understanding of the patent process preferred.
* Proven success in driving system development
* Must be a good team builder who can effectively and efficiently grow the organization to meet business goals
