This position assists the Press/Mail Foreman or acts in place of the Press-Mail Foreman, with the set-up, execution and maintenance of the daily press operation producing Dow Jones or other commercial print publications in a cost-effective manner achieving the highest quality standards possible using existing technology. Must meet internal/external expectations for reproduction quality, content freshness and productivity while cost-effectively managing materials consumption. The Assistant Press/Mail Foreman works continuously to improve Production Quality Scores in a manner consistent with the plant and department wide continuous improvement process. They are to develop the skills necessary to function as the Press/Mail Foreman and to work with plant management to maintain open communication with employees while clearly emphasizing the goals and objectives of the department.

The position involves periodic supervision of the preparation, layout, operation and maintenance of printing presses and related equipment as well as supervising the Mailroom and Plateroom operations as directed by the Press/Mail Foreman or the Assistant Press/Mail Foreman. Duties include setting and maintaining a balance of ink and water, registration of printing, operating ABB ink setting controls and operating press folder controls. Position is to learn, apply and help in teaching the skill sets needed for quality control during a press run including following the directives of the Press/Mail Foreman, Assistant Press/Mail Foreman or the Production Manager. During a press run must constantly check reproduction to see if it is clear, registered and that the ink is properly set within a specified density range.

The Assistant Press/Mail Foreman must be able to step in wherever and whenever needed as well as help in the training of pressroom apprentices/trainees as applicable and provide feedback to the Press/Mail Foreman regarding employee performance reviews. Additional duties may be assigned by the Press/Mail Foreman including but not limited to; supervising the weekly grading of publications, dot gain testing, scheduling, equipment maintenance, scheduling, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

* Strong leadership, initiative, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
* Well developed verbal and written communication skills.

* Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Proficient in the use of business PC applications (spreadsheet, word processing, etc.).

* Strong technical knowledge and mechanical aptitude of offset printing and related equipment.

* Position requires standing, lifting, bending and physical exertion throughout shift.

* Previous managerial or supervisory experience a plus
