Position Description & Duties
The Fundamentals Analyst for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Market Strategies team at the company’s Houston, TX office reporting to the Director of Market Strategies. The Market Strategies team develops fundamental research and analysis for Apache’s commodity exposures, the output of which serves a range of internal stakeholders including executive leadership, Midstream & Marketing, Corporate Planning, Business Development and Asset Teams. This position supports all aspects of Market Strategies’ responsibilities, with a focus on supply and demand modeling of global crude, US and European natural gas, natural gas liquids, and the UK/EU emissions markets.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
Build fundamental supply and demand models across commodities;
Maintain an in-depth understanding of energy markets and price drivers;
Develop and maintain quantitative tools to measure and monitor Apache portfolio price risk and hedging options;
Quantitatively and qualitatively value existing and prospective commercial sales or transportation agreements;
Effectively articulate fundamental views, market opportunities, valuations, and related recommendations to leadership;
Establish strong relationships with key internal stakeholders;
Prepare presentation material for executive management and Board of Directors; and
Perform ad-hoc research and analysis as requested.
Preferred Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
3+ years of analytical experience in fundamental research and/or commodity trading;
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics or similar field;
Strong strategic sense combined with an ability to perform in an unstructured environment;
Ability to create complex financial and fundamental models;
Experience managing large datasets with deep proficiency in Microsoft Excel / VBA;
Experience with commodity market fundamentals and pricing data sources;
Experience with Bloomberg terminal / API preferred;
Experience with Python or similar programming language preferred; and
Familiarity with energy commodity market pricing mechanics, options theory, and financial risk principles preferred.
