Position Description & Duties:
The IT Analyst, Configuration Management for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s IT Strategy & Planning team at the company’s Houston, Texas, office reporting to the Manager of the IT Strategy and Operations team.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
Manage the execution of the established configuration management process(es)
Liaise with all groups within IT to understand and help progress change requests
Help lead the weekly change advisory board (CAB) meetings when required
Define and lead the processes required to maintain configuration item (CI) attributes in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and reconcile discrepancies in data as a part of change request closeout
Liaise with other IT groups to raise awareness, educate and gain support of Configuration and associated change management processes
Create and maintain process documentation in concert with the change management and configuration management process owner(s)
Produce configuration health and status reports for leadership teams
Conduct configuration audit checks to reconcile physical IT data with CMDB, and initiate change workflow processes as needed to update data reconciliation processes
Work with other IT Service Management (ITSM), IT Business Management (ITBM), and IT Operations Management (ITOM) process owners to develop and ensure tight integration and handoff points
Interacting and consulting with appropriate business analysts to understand application requirements. Define architectural components to meet those requirements and address how ongoing architectural changes will affect CMDB dependencies
Defining CI attributes and understand how to reconcile data inconsistencies through discovery or other means
Establishing protocol (for example, incident, problem, change, asset, or service level) for communicating with intersecting process owners/managers to ensure that CMDB data is evergreen and that the configuration (CMDB) and change management processes are achieving their goals
Being familiar with the CMDB activity cycle
Having knowledge of dependency mapping solutions
Preferred & Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
Familiarity with Information Technology Infrastructure Library changes and configuration management processes. ITIL® Foundation certification required, ITIL® Practitioner certification preferred
Strong process improvement experience, and experience developing metrics and quantifying value returned
Possess team leadership skills to galvanize IT domains (such as networking, storage or application management) and ensure they actively work toward a common goal
Communication skills for regular reporting on the performance and metrics of the program to senior management and stakeholders
Technical background (preferably in one or more areas of configuration management)
Database development and an understanding of data structures, data schemas and data modeling
Prior experience defining, executing, and maintaining configuration and change management processes
Cross-domain experience with ancillary applications (such as security) for a broad understanding of critical intersections of the CMDB
Develop and determine trusted data sources and the reconciliation process, as well as schedule the CMDB data update process
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Information Technology or relevant certification/experience
5+ years of experience in an IT service management role with a focus on Change Management, the CMDB, software asset management, and associated processes
Proven work history of successfully implementing the CMDB within ServiceNow
Experienced with working with various IT groups to establish a configuration item discovery process (hardware and software)
Experience creating and maintaining ITSM and ITOM process and business requirements documentation
ServiceNow configuration management or CMDB training and certification(s)
Experience troubleshooting discovery errors and defining or modifying discovery patterns, probes, and scripting
Experience configuring the ServiceNow CI Class Manager
Experience with the ServiceNow CMDB Health, CMDB Identification and Reconciliation, and CMDB CI Lifecycle Management functionality
Experience with System Import and Scheduling
Experience with SCCM data integration into the CMDB
Experience with software asset discovery and custom application discovery configuration
Experience with Hardware Asset discovery and any intersection with configuration management and the CMDB
