Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer - Fuels will be responsible for the mechanical design, development, and analysis of nuclear fuel products. This role requires collaboration with sourcing, fabrication and quality, thermal-mechanical analysts, material scientists, fuel experts, and nuclear/thermal-hydraulic analysis engineers to assure product perform within licensed and GNF performance expectations in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

* Create mechanical design solutions to support the development of new products & design modifications to improve existing products
* Understand the fabrication processes for component and assemblies, the post fabrication transportation and handling and the customer application requirements for fuel products and services
* Prepare drawings and specifications for new and existing fuel designs
* Identify, document and lead the resolution of technical risks within each project
* Provide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacy
* Perform design reviews and production readiness reviews
* Address emergent customer and manufacturing issues
* Work closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activities
* Design test procedures and perform testing to address component and assembly adequacy
* Develop procedures and work to improve engineering productivity
* Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
* Assist and provide support to the team technical leader and functional manager to plan, status and execute projects
* Perform work with high quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards
* Effectively communicate and collaborate activities with other team members on technical issues
Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelors in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
* Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience
* Expertise in drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and CAD) and analysis
Desire Qualifications:

* Masters Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
* Prior nuclear Industry knowledge / experience
* Proven track record of problem-solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation
* Prior SFR and BWR fuel technology or reactor experience
* Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
* Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, welding, statistics and finite element analysis
* A self-starter willing to take initiatives
* Ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information
* Strong customer focus and clear understanding of nuclear industriesThe salary range for this position is $75-126k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience, their education, and the work location.
