Sr Engineer Design - Vehicle Communication

Job Summary

We are expanding our product development team and need electrical systems and component design engineers to fuel the next generation of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and Products. In this position, you will be a ready to serve as resource across all Embedded Control Units (ECU) development teams guiding software development and specifying ECU communications.

Job Responsibilities

•    Define communication between H-D ECUs based on system needs and engineering requests.  Deliver Vector CAN database dbc files and LIN database ldf files.
•    Define diagnostic services and DTCs for all H-D ECUs based on component needs and engineering requests.  Deliver Vector Diagnostic Database CDD files.
•    Work within project schedules to release updates.
•    Support development of off-vehicle communication interfaces (USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, Cellular).
•    Partner with design engineers to develop ECU reflash strategies.
•    Influence H-D software and communication architecture. 
•    Support integration, testing, and troubleshooting of ECUs against the requirements in the communication databases and system architecture design specifications.
•    Lead the electrical team’s responsibility to develop manufacturing and service tools to configure vehicles and diagnose issues.
•    Mentor H-D’s and supplier’s engineers around the above activities.

Education Specifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field. A Master’s Degree is desired. 

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience. In addition, you will have demonstrated the following hands-on skills: 
General 
•    Experience with CAN based systems.
•    Understanding of engine and chassis control systems which utilize CAN communications.
•    Experience or familiarity with wireless communication including Bluetooth, WiFi, and cellular.
•    Understanding of embedded software reflash strategies.
•    Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization.
•    Experience with programming, preferably CAPL or C.
•    Understanding of cybersecurity best practices is a plus. 
Communication/Tools
•    Hands-on experience with Vector software development tool chain including CANdela, CANdb++ CANbedded, GENy etc.
•    Hands-on testing with CAN/LIN tools (preferably Vector) and general electrical lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
•    Development of high-speed embedded communication drivers.
•    Automotive high-speed communication buses especially CAN based on ISO 11898. 
•    Automotive on-board diagnostics based on relevant standards such as SAEJ2012, ISO15765, and ISO14429.
•    Experience with requirements tools (e.g. Helix ALM, DOORS, JAMA).
