AbbVie is searching for an In-House Patent Agent in our Intellectual Property Prosecution group to support our Oncology R&D team. This position will be based at the company's headquarters in North Chicago, IL.
Working both individually and in cross-functional teams, the Patent Agent will develop and implement intellectual property strategy for AbbVie's therapeutic products and product candidates, including compositions, manufacturing methods, formulations, and methods of use.
Responsibilities include working with scientific teams to identify patentable subject matter; drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications worldwide both directly and through management of outside counsel; conducting prior art searches; analyzing third-party patent positions.

Qualifications
* Currently attending an accredited law school with graduation and state bar admission anticipated within two years from point of hire.
* Registration to practice before the USPTO.
* Three or more years of experience as a patent agent at a law firm and/or biopharmaceutical company, including substantial U.S. and foreign patent prosecution.
* Technical background should include experience and/or advanced degree in a relevant field, such as biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, chemical engineering or pharmacology; experience with pharmaceutical development (small molecules and/or biologics) preferable.
* Strong legal, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to meet deadlines.
